Would you use any form of online match making service? Do you currently? If you would or do, why do you and has it benefitted you at all? If you don't or wouldn't, why not?

hhhhmmmm, I don't know, I haven't been single for over 10 years now, I guess there used to be some sort of desperado stigma attached to it but I think over the last couple of years it's become more normalized. And it's probably a better way to meet like minded people then hoping to happen upon some in a bar or whatever. So, in conclusion I wouldn't rule it out if I was single and looking to meet someone but there's still a part of me that would prefer to meet someone through real life rather than a dating service

Yeah I know what you mean Niamh... because in a way, it's brilliant you can meet like minded people over the internet, it's like online shopping... try before you buy... but on the other hand, it's so easy for people to lie, mislead or embellish things about themselves and create a persona that they aren't like in reality. Plus it feels kind of artificial to say you met someone online...

I have a POF account but I hardly ever use it, if I do go on it I have messages from sleezes.

I'd only use one to get my end away. There are some real desperados on those sites.

I mean I'd rather go on a date with someone if I knew they were into some of the things I was into than go on a blind date with someone I have nothing in common with or meet someone in a bar and then discover we have nothing in common; but there is still a stigma attached to online dating, even if it's not laughed at as it used to be...

I would never use an online match making service or whatever, I think you have to get to know someone before you consider them as more than a friend. I met my boyfriend online though it was completely by accident, I wasn't looking for love or whatever, it was just by chance. We had our two year anniversary in June and I am going to fly to him for a week in 23 days (both of us paid for my trip together). Long distance relationships are hard but they are so rewarding. You have to be very trusting though, I would say be very careful if you plan on it because I have seen lots of friends get hurt, if you plan to date online then meet them as soon as it's possible for both of you.
