Not really surprising the car driver panicked with dozens of motorcyclists surrounding him looking like they're itching for an excuse to start a fight and beat him up, hopefully some of them get arrested

"An NYPD spokesman told the Mail Online the SUV driver, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital and treated for lacerations to his face and body.

He said there were no other injuries reported from the incident."

Doesn't sound like he is in one

I don't blame the driver, it was an accident and these bikers are worse then pathetic for chasing and attacking him. It sounds like the accident was their fault in the first place since it says they were driving erratically. Bunch of animals.

..I'd watched the video of this earlier in the day and at first I thought that fault lay with the driver for knocking the guy off the bike and that's why they chased him...but I watched it a few times and realised how intimidating they were from the beginning and how scared he must have been when they circled him and blocked him in..I actually found the vid very disturbing although it didn't show the attack itself because all I kept thinking was how terrified the driver must have been through it all and literally fearing for his family's lives..and the chase seemed to go on forever and he just couldn't get away from them...

A man involved in a group of bikers' alleged assault of a driver in Manhattan suffered spine injuries in the confrontation and is paralysed, his wife has said.

The incident in which police say the bikers assaulted the driver of a Range Rover in front of his wife and child has been caught on video.

Police have so far arrested two suspects, both from the bikers' group.

The video, taken from a rider's helmet cam, shows a large group of bikers clustering around the Range Rover in Manhattan.

There is an initial collision, then the bikers chase down the car, which at various points is blocked in traffic or surrounded by the riders.

At one point, the SUV suddenly accelerates, bouncing over at least one of the motorcycles and its rider as others scramble to get out of the way.

The chase ends when the SUV exits the highway and gets stuck in street traffic.

The video shows one biker using his helmet to smash the driver's window, another one trying to smash the window with his fists.

Police said the group then pulled the man from the SUV and beat him, although that part is not shown on the recording posted online.

The biker who may never walk again, Ed Mieses, is the one hit by the car as it sped away, his wife Dayana said.

He suffered broken legs, fractured ribs and spine injuries, according to his family.

Mr Mieses, known as Jay Meezee, is an aspiring rapper from outside Boston, and he and his wife have two teenaged children.

Sky.

No matter how intimidating they were I don't think I could have driven away like that, but you never know what you would do until faced with such a situation.

Am I correct in thinking the "paralysed" biker was not involved in the initial collision but got run over after they all chased the driver down and he tried to escape in a panic?

Surely that is the bikers fault for being a twat?

Yes. He was struck later than the initial collision.

A motorcyclist has been charged with reckless driving after he apparently sparked a confrontation between a motorist and bikers that ended with three people being injured.

The driver of a black Range Rover, Alexian Lien, was allegedly beaten up by the group after he had reportedly driven over one of the bikers, Edwin Mieses, during an attempt to get away.

Mr Lien, 33, who was in the SUV with his wife and two-year-old child, needed stitches on his face but his family was unhurt in the Manhattan incident.

Mr Mieses' legs were broken and he has spine injuries that will leave him paralysed, his wife said.

Christopher Cruz, 28, of New Jersey, is the only person to be charged in the case.

He is accused of reckless driving and unlawful imprisonment. Cruz's lawyer denied all allegations as his client appeared in court and the suspect was later released on bail.

A second man arrested after surrendering to police was not prosecuted, the Manhattan district attorney's office said.

The New York incident was caught on a helmet-mounted camera worn by a biker and was posted online anonymously

Prosecutors and police said Cruz was taking part in a motorcycle rally speeding along Manhattan's West Side Highway.

Cruz cut in front of a black Range Rover and, still staring at its driver, slowed down so much that the rear tyre of his bike bumped the front of the SUV, they said.

He got out and approached the SUV, prosecutors said.

A video captured the moment as about two dozen riders slowed down, swarming the SUV and blocking its path. Some got off their bikes and approached the vehicle.

Police said a number of them began damaging the Range Rover.

The motorist, who police say was frightened for his family in the car, suddenly lurched forward, driving over a rider before heading north. The motorcyclists chased the driver for about 2.5 miles and got the SUV to stop

The chase ended when the SUV left the highway and was stuck in traffic. The video showed one biker using his helmet to smash the driver's window.

At least one other biker was injured in the incident.

Mr Mieses, known as Jay Meezee, is an aspiring rapper from outside Boston, and he and his wife have two teenage children.

"There's no hope for his back," Mrs Meises told reporters outside hospital.

"They crushed his spine. They broke it in two different places, so he will be forever, forever paralysed."

"My husband got off his bike to help the guy," she said of the confrontation.

"When you look at the video you can see he (the driver of the car) is running over something. It's not just a motorcycle, it's a human being that was under there."

Police say Mr Lien had called 911 to report the bikers were driving erratically, and reported being scared for his wife and child.

He has not been charged, but police are still investigating

..this is quite a complicated 'crime' I think....

....the others probably saw the SUV clipping the motorcyclist and weren't sure exactly how it happened and would have just talked to him maybe but the rest happened because he panicked and drove off through and hitting one of them..which I can completely understand why he did but it does seem quite complicated and maybe not just a case of them being idiots...

An undercover police officer has appered in court to face riot and criminal mischief charges after a New York biker brawl.

Wojciech Braszczok was apparently seen on a video hitting and kicking a car whose owner was allegedly attacked by a group of motorcyclists.

The driver, Alexian Lien, was pulled from his Range Rover last month and assaulted after hitting a motorcyclist when a biker rally spiralled into violence

Braszczok's lawyer said the video actually exculpates his client, who was at least 12ft from the attack on Mr Lien, a married father of a toddler whose family was in the car at the time.

But prosecutors say the undercover cop was an "active participant" in the attack.

Braszczok surrendered on Tuesday, according to police.

He was stripped of his gun and badge after internal affairs detectives discovered he was present for at least part of the melee.

NYPD internal affairs investigators had initially been looking into Braszczok's conduct because he did not report until three days later that he had been at the rally.

The expectation that police officers will act if they see crimes is not the same for undercover officers

But Assistant District Attorney Samantha Turino said Braszczok should have stepped in to try to stop the attack.

The encounter, captured partly on a helmet-mounted video that was posted online, began when about two dozen riders slowed down, swarming the SUV after it bumped a biker on the West Side Highway.

Some riders dismounted and approached the SUV, and police said some bikers began damaging it.

Mr Lien took off running over motorcyclist Edwin "Jay" Mieses Jr. The impact broke Mieses' legs and caused spinal injuries that may leave him paralysed.

Mr Lien's wife has said he feared for their lives and the safety of their two-year-old daughter and had no choice but to flee. Mr Lien has not been charged with any crime.

The bikers pursued the SUV, which left the highway and got stuck in traffic.

One biker used his helmet to shatter the driver's window, and others pulled Lien out and beat and kicked him, police and prosecutors said. Mr Lien needed stitches.

Six people have been arrested in connection with the attack

I definitely side with the driver in the car. Watching the video of all those bikers swarming him, I would have been terrified. It looks like something out of a zombie movie.
