[Takeaway driver Thavisha Lakindu Peiris - described as "bright and caring" - is found brutally murdered on his last day at work.
A 25-year-old student has been stabbed to death as he made his final pizza delivery before starting a career as an IT consultant.

Thavisha Lakindu Peiris, who was originally from Sri Lanka, was found slumped at the wheel of his car on Sunday evening, in the Southey area of Sheffield, as he was on his way to deliver a takeaway.

Detectives say they cannot explain the "brutal and shocking death" of a "career-minded, hard-working, bright, articulate and friendly young man".

According to South Yorkshire Police, Mr Peiris was making his last delivery for Domino's Pizza when he died.]

I worry about my city at times. I'm only young and for the most part it's a great friendly place but there are some very unsavoury characters within our metropolitan borough. I suppose there are in all really it's just not nice when it happens in your own area.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering pizza delivery driver Thavisha Lakindu Peiris, police have said.

Mr Peiris, 25, was found stabbed to death in his car in the Southey area of Sheffield on Sunday night.

He was making his last delivery on his final day working for Domino's Pizza and was due to start a job in IT.

South Yorkshire Police said a 17-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening and would soon be questioned.

A 25-year-old has also been detained on suspicion of murder

Mr Peiris was found by colleagues slumped in a silver Toyota Yaris after he failed to complete his delivery.

They said he had been feeling unwell and was going to go home early but agreed to deliver one last order.

Mr Peiris came to the UK from Sri Lanka to finish an IT degree and graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2011.

His parents described him as "the most caring and loving son a parent could have".

Speaking from Sri Lanka, his father Sarath Mahinda Peiris and mother Sudarma Narangoda said: "We sent our son to the UK to study so he can have a better life.

"Now we are left with only a broken heart.

"We were devastated and shocked to hear of our son's tragic end and we are still unable to comprehend that he is actually gone.

"Thavisha was one of the most caring and loving sons a parent could have.

"He was full of life and always had a smile on his face. Anyone who met him immediately liked him.

"He was a deeply religious boy who would not even harm an ant."

His family are to fly to the UK in the coming days, with Domino's Pizza saying it will cover the cost of the flights.

A 50-strong police team has been working on the murder inquiry, with officers carrying out extensive house-to-house inquiries and examining CCTV footage

Hear hear... what a horrible, horrible thing to happen to someone. Why would anyone do that to a guy delivering pizzas? He wasn't harming anyone. He wasn't some kid causing trouble, he was just doing his job. It's so tragic! His last delivery of his last shift there... man..

I would see these two scenarios differently.

1) two guys arguing, one throws a brick through his window and in retaliation the other guy takes a kitchen knife and bludgeons him

2) some innocent girl walks down the street with her iPhone and a guy kills her and takes it.

Both murders, both disgusting but I would feel a lot more disgusted for the girl.

Sure, but there's something deeply tragic about this man's death. If he'd been killed in a fight gone too far I don't think there'd be as much sympathy as there is for him because he was just finishing his shift, he wasn't inciting trouble.

I agree with Zee and Simpleminds, all murder is not equal. Some are much more evil than others.

what does "evil" mean? i can't describe it really, but i know it when i see it.

It's just a word really what we use to give meaning to people's actions.

I'd be quite happy to use the word evil for the perpetrator of this crime though.

I mean this is a young man who came to this country to study, and he was about to start a career in IT, it's similar to that case of the Italian boy who was murdered - why are there so many scummy people in this country taking their hatred out on hard working people? I don't know if this was racially motivated but it just pains me to read about people coming to the UK with the best intentions and then to be murdered... it's so awful.

I can't see one murder more tragic than another, a young girl shot while walking along a London street, the man knifed walking to church.. these apparently motiveless crimes are all equally heinous to me.

to be honest i've seen some kidnapping cases that i think are worse than some murders. even though the person survives, i still think it's more horrific than murder.

Personally, when i think of the case of the 3 girls who were kidnapped and used as sex slaves for 10 years in Ohio, i think that is a worse crime than just shooting someone in the head murder in a robbery. I would much rather be shot in the head and murdered than being kept as a slave for 10 years in someone's basement.

I think torture is worse than murder. and murders that involve torture are much worse than just a simple robbery where someone is killed instantly and robbed.

there are definitely different degrees of evil. some crimes are more evil than others. for sure.
