Default Ban smoking on all your grounds, hospitals urged

[Ban smoking on all your grounds, hospitals urged: Patients face fines for breaking rules

Yes it is wrong that patients are sneaking out for a Fag.
While at Hospital - No smoking.
Thats Fair.

I don't actually agree with this. Like it or not, smokers need to be able to smoke somewhere.

Maybe a designated smoking area.
Nothing worse than them lingering around the entrances

Yes, I agree with this. There's nothing worse than a crowd of smokers hunched over in their dressing gowns at the hospital entrance..
They're talking about banning it on NHS grounds completely though..

I don't agree with this. Smokers should still be able to smoke if hospitalised. Not by the entrance but there should be a designated smoking area.

Yeah.. Being in hospital can be stressful enough without being deprived of nicotine.

If a smoker wants to smoke then why should they be denied, especially while in hospital? As long as it is in a designated smoking area I don't see the issue.

If it were that simple and easy Arista, there'd hardly be any smokers!

I get that they shouldn't be smoking by entrances, but I find it ridiculous to forbid smokers entirely from having a cigarette. If they want to smoke let them.

Neither do I and in fact when I was regularly visiting someone in Hospital,it was as much the staff that were outside smoking as well as Patients.

Until it is actually illegal to smoke in this Country then the open air should be somewhere someone can smoke if they wish to.

Often the hospital grounds are large and to insist that patients who smoke would have to leave the hospital grounds and be some distance from the Hospital building is neither practical or right in my view.

I don't smoke and I understand like many things, it can be harmful to health but it is legal to smoke in the UK so this is again a removal of what should be a right.
Also bearing in mind where the patients may need to have to go for the odd cigarette,it could prove to be a dangerous move too.

I've heard horrible things about champix.. Having said that, I know a couple of people who have used it successfully.

Because of its History

Like in the 1950's in a Hospital
you could smoke on your bed

My friend used Champix and quit successfully. He never had any problems with it.
When I decided I wanted to quit I went to the doctor in the hope he would give me them but he refused

Have you any history of depression/anxiety etc? They won't prescribe to anybody who has as it can bring on suicidal feelings
