Default Is the Big Bang Theory the new Friends?

I can see many similarities between the two shows.

Friends used to get massive ratings and now BBT is doing the same thing getting nearly 15 - 20 million viewers each week.

Friends were constantly on Channel 4, then E4 and now Comedy Central, the same is happening to the BBT, every time I turn on C4 or E4 it seems to be a Big Bang Theory episode on.

Both shows seem to dumb down as seasons go on, for example Sheldon in early season used to know everything and never drunk, but in recent seasons he seems stupider and in a recent episode he got pissed after drinking beer.

So is the Big Bang Theory the new Friends? Are we going to have 10 seasons of BBT and constant rumors of a comeback 10 years down the line?
