Default Mental health

Sadly remains a taboo in today's society and a lot of stigma still attached but have you ever suffered/do you suffer any psychological issues...? Pretty sure an identical thread was done a while back but just thought it'd be interesting to see.

Poll's obviously confidential and all that but you're of course more than free to share your experience(s) if you're up for it.

I've suffered from severe mental health for many years of my life, and i'm currently actually in the system getting treatment, and going to several appointments each month for psychiatric support... and to start getting medical help
I don't really talk about it to anyone though, i have always put my education as a way to get through my problems, and try to avoid them, and that has worked for so long, but in about september i had a complete breakdown and had to go get major help

Social anxiety when it comes to meeting new people, I'm probably go into panic attack mode if I ever met someone from here in real life even if I'm really friendly with them on here. Use to have really bad anxiety and panic attacks but they have faded the older I've become. and this thing called ''intrusive thoughts'' which I didn't realise was a thing until recently. Thinking thoughts that you don't necessarily mean and stuff. Hard to explain..I still get intrusive thoughts a fair bit

Use to be a massive hypochondriac as well, but not in the jokey 'you think you've got everything way' - it had gotten to the point where at times I could make myself think I had symptoms for things to the extent where I was actually physically feeling the symptoms, very scary

Don't think autistic-related disorders are necessarily mental health, but rather developmental issues, but they're closer to mental than physical I suppose, so...

And obviously there are loads out there who suffer brief blips in emotion but nothing chronic...seasonal affective disorder is a mix in the sense that it's only triggered in the winter months?

I'm very defensive about my problems though, i mean i always deny it and whenever i have appointments, i mean last week i had to travel about 4 hours to go to a specialist, and i didnt tell any of my friends, its really unhealthy tbh
The stigma needs to change

Many of my family have suffered from depression sometime in there like(Including myself) One thing I can say don't keep your emotion stuck inside. If you feel like crying. Just cry. I learn this myself. When I had a breakdown in November 2012. I'm a lot better now. I still have bad days but I'm a lot better now I let my feeling outs.

Panic disorder - 6 years in, getting easier and I'm getting on with it.

Was a recluse basically 2 years ago, I'm now in second year of uni achieving 2:1 grades.

CBT/counselling wasn't helpful to me even after two goes so I had to basically make myself more ill to get better, if that makes sense? Forcing myself to confront situations I'd avoid, worked too.

P.s - major respect to anyone who has no taboo about dealing with/admitting they have a mental health issue!!

Problem with threads like these is self-diagnosis. People associating a bad sleeping pattern with having a sleep disorder and shy people with having social anxiety

Was on anti anxiety & anti depressants for about 8 months last year, never told anyone and one time my mum saw my pills cause i'd left them out and i had to make up an excuse that they were from years ago when i went to the doctors for acne

I've got a couple of boxes of them left, so if i ever feel like i need them, i'll take a couple every now and then

I can tell people on here because I know I'm never going to meet any of you. But I don't think I could tell my friends about the breakdown. I had to bull**** when I was off school for long period. The only one friend I told was my ex girlfriend.

I believe I am mentally healthy though I think I tend to be slightly OCD at times.

I have a few issues which I am sure of, though I still need to see a doctor about stuff but I feel too insecure to go to the doctor, haven't been in yearsd. It's a vicious cycle.

Was diagnosed with depression years back but am fine now.

Tbh the meds they gave me made me worse, but they wouldnt listen and kept telling me to take them, so I have stocks and stocks of citalopram an fluoxetine in the cupboard downstairs
