Default Is TV getting worse?

In general quality and fresh ideas... These days gameshows only seem to feature Z-List celebs - Family Fortunes, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire (before it went), The Million Pound Drop features far too many, even our beloved BB seems to want to go more the celeb route.

Documentaries seem to just be a piss take of anyone less fortunate than us, Ch4 is especially notorious for this. Long gone are the days of a decent Dispatches episode and now we're given stuff like Benefits Street that's supposed to reflect 'real life'.

All the favourite comedies and dramas are now gone or a shadow of their former self. Shameless was awful before it was finally put to rest. We'll get the odd Royle Family Christmas special which the year before last was appalling.

It could be said we look through rose tinted specs but when you watch on old show online or see repeats and how good they were, that's definitely not the case

reality shows and soaps have 100% been declining in quality since 2010 & 2011
I know they all have their bad patches but I've never seen them this bad

I agree & I don't agree, I watch TV less now a days, I only watch stuff that I want to watch if there's nothing on I turn it off

I still enjoy BB imo it's got better in the last 2 years, I don't watch Coach trip anymore tbh and I liked it

...I don't enjoy reality shows as much as I used to but I think maybe that's just because the 'newness' isn't there anymore...and I struggle to keep interest in any soaps but I don't know if that's just me or whether the storylines just aren't as interesting...

I guess the problem is soap SL's have all been done to death. You'll get the same ones popping up every few years.

..yeah, I remember when all anyone talked about was EE, the storylines were gripping but I also think that they didn't stretch out as long though either and I prefer that because I lose interest if they go on for months and keep skipping to other SL, so there are too many at once for me....

Hollyoaks is definitely getting too ridiculous for words. Most reality are a stale format now as well, a lot running over 10 years. Some still like it but they're generally just watching out of habit I think

if your talking the standard tv in the uk then hell yeah i rarely watch it. it complete crap most of the time. depressing programs , soaps that stopped being good a long time a go.
no quality , the best programs are the repeats from years a go that they put on . which says it all really.

but if your talking tv in general. there is some fantastic programs these days. some of the best tv ever made but all of it is american. they make breaking bad and for our tax payers money what do we make. oh yeah doctor who lol

i watched tv the other day for the first time in ages and god i was bored.
i binge on box sets to avoid it all.

Well that's what annoying. These big American imports seem to be the best things on TV and all anyone ever talks about. Plus most people here watch them online first anyway

I can see what you mean, I like what I watch though obviously such as the soaps and a few reality programmes. I dislike some of what's on tele now, those ch4 docs you mentioned, gameshows and some have been on for too long now

Past quiz shows were a lot better than today's, The Chase is about the best one ATM. Despise Vernon Kaye, he puts me off watching Family Fortunes.

Some fantastic shows on telly, just depends what you like.
Line of Duty with Keeley Hawes is really gripping.

The main issue with shows in the last two to three years is that they are so concerned with getting ratings that they make them as safe as possible in their quality, it means yes they're good to watch if you are in the mood, but you will never really love the programme because it doesn't take any risks that's really entertaining to watch or if you hate the risk it's taken you can bitch about it for a good few days (well I do anyway) and also I think all TV shows now are so concerned with having models on their shows that they don't care if these people are actually interesting to watch.

But if you haven't seen these shows then I suggest watching Bates Motel and Sleepy Hollow out of the new ones, and The Blacklist does have it's moments.

And if you're willing to give Japanese Anime a go then I would suggest giving Psycho-Pass a chance as it's coming back for a second season.

TV is still good but the channels have become very lazy with their programming and out put. Reality TV is cheap and now dominates the schedule.

Daytime tv is still going strong with all the classics, prime time is generally dominated by reality shows, soaps of which I only like Corrie, or poor gameshows, does seem they all think they need celebs to be successful now even though there's nothing interesting about any of the celebs they get on there

When they brought back Family Fortunes was it straight away with celebs?
