pretty horrific story today
paralysed stroke victim hears doctors write him off and discuss giving his organs away the staff had written him off as dead as hed had a stroke and some paralysis, they decided he wasnt worth keeping alive and discussed getting his organs meanwhile the poor bloke could hear all this but couldnt move or speak thankfully a few days later he made enough movement to get his families attention and got asecond opinion hes not up and about and will sue the nhs In my experience of losing a loved one, the amount of pressure nhs staff put on emotionally distraught people to allow their relatives to die is a national disgrace....DNR DNR DNR is all you will ever hear about 10 times a visit. do not resuscitate pretty much means they will alow the patient to die if his heart or other organs fail they spend very little time actually telling you whats wrong with the patient or what cna be done to help the patient. the nhs is a national disgrace |

Link since no one else has bothered!
Anyway... having just read the link... I don't think his case against the NHS will go very far, unfortunately. Mainly because this happened in Sweden... Other than that, it is a horrific yet surprisingly common story - did anyone see the Louis Theroux docu on End of Life care in the US last Sunday? One of the cases involved in that he followed, was a young College student who basically messed himself up with a party-drug overdose, he was totally unresponsive and the family were told repeatedly that there was no chance of recovery. At one point, they were filming a supposedly "top neurosurgeon" who was looking at scans and said he would most likely never wake up, and if he did he would be in a persistent vegetative state... his family (mainly his sister) refused to give up hope and then by the end of them following it, he was starting to show slight signs of life ![]() At the end they had a brief follow-up where Louis went back, and the guy was up and walking around, talking and joking, shook his hand etc. WTF is that?? They had seemed SO sure, we were watching it saying "what a shame, his sister is in total denial". |
