Default First ever fish and chip pie goes on sale soon...

..will you try it..?...

M&S, a company intrinsically associated with British traditions, has gone one step further and taken that classic fare - fish and chips - and turned it into another time-honoured treat - a pie.

Part of its Gastropub range, the pie - which has been handcrafted in Yorkshire - is an all-butter pastry case containing a layer of minted pea puree, covered by chunks of cod in a béchamel based tartare sauce. It is topped with chips and smoked sea salt

The pie takes 35 minutes to cook in the oven (about the same time as the queue at my local chippy on a Friday night) and contains 581 calories and 31g of fat - roughly the same as a BLT sandwich.

At the time of reporting, no samples of the much-tweeted pie were available but, in the name of serious journalism, MSN Food will be trying one as soon as possible...

A pie for one costs £3.49 and is available from Marks & Spencer stores from 22 April
