I've been formally invited to a wedding I've never been invited to one before - I went to my cousin's wedding when I was a kid so obviously I wasn't responding to the invitation and then for my older brother's wedding it was a given I would be there so I wasn't given an invitation - so this is the first time I've ever been invited! But eh... how do you actually respond to a wedding invite? What do you say?

When I got one from my friend (that you stalk) I just told her I'd come when I next saw her She texted me about the menu choices.

..just RSVP it by email or something and let them know you'll be there so they'll know that things might not go exactly as planned and there could be a few unexpected 'events'/calamities....

It's my sister in law's sister (does that make her my sister in law too? I've never been clear on that) who is getting married and it's their mum (my brother's mother in law) who is organising the wedding reception so it's her I have to respond to, don't have her number :P.

I can bring a plus one, I think I'll say I'm bringing one anyway and bring a friend or something. No mention of menu or gift list or anything else with it as far as I know (it's at my brother's flat, I got to look at it briefly on Monday but couldn't bring it home with me because of family problems)

not sure how the weddings you're talking about work. with south asian weddings, it's usually in a huge venue with everyone sitting around circular tables and food being served, whilst people who knows/are related to the bride or groom go to the front to take photos with them and feed them cake (lol). then once everyone has eaten they gather to the front for the vows to be said

these weddings have 100-200 people, if not more. you can literally roll up and get a free three course meal, no one asks who you are as they just assume you know the bride/groom somehow. the venue is so full you end up sitting with strangers anyway. a large percentage of people leave straightaway after they eat and might leave an envelope of money for the newlyweds

so yeah, everytime I go to a wedding I just sit with my extended family/friends and eat and socialise with them. don't even bother going up to see who's getting married.

I would send a letter back to say thanks for the invite and i would be delighted to come. A letter is far better than a scummy text etc.

Obviously there is a bit saying to RSVP but it just literally says "RSVP" and gives my brother's mother in law's home address, so do I like send her a letter saying yo bitch it's Z I'm coming everyone bring a change of underwear or do I write that I'm attending on the RSVP card and post that back or what?

No it just means respond please (in french) -so you keep the card for your reference and send a nice letter

Cheers LT. I'm going to go round to my brother's flat tomorrow to collect the invites (there's one for my younger brother as well) and keep them hidden somewhere and respond to mine tomorrow night. Do you think handwritten or typed would be better?

I would send a card back. You can get them in card factory - single wedding acceptance cards. Most people prefer something in writing so they can calculate numbers
