let's write our own ghost story. I'll start and you all continue, adding as much or as little as you wish. let's see where the story takes us. You can add more than once but not consecutively please. (If this turns out to be a 'blockbuster' I bags copywright!!! )

A Ghost Story

The room was as cold and dark as a tomb, so despite my weariness, I was too frightened to sleep. I just lay there on the floor instead, staring into the dying embers of my makeshift fire, listening to the banging in the wind of some old shutters in a distant room.

Then, I heard it... another sound.... drawing nearer....

The door creaked.

The window banged shut and Cal crawled out of the attic hatch at the end of the room

Looking a lot like Samara from the ring only scarier, he slowly crept closer and closer making a low growling sound.....

I quickly grabbed the knife out of my boot....

The blade glinted in the moonlight streaming in through the window. My fingers gripped the handle tighter and my knuckles turned white. The growling resonated through mind as my heart began to beat in rapid succession. It was not the first time that I had seen this creature; I had felt its presence forty years ago, and that memory crashed through my mind like an errant locomotive...

.. I remembered it like it was only yesterday..it was the night they drove old Dixie down and all the bells were singing...that night they drove old Dixie down, all the people were singing..they sang...

...of how relieved they all were that Old Dixie was finally gone, of how they would feel safer at night now. I never witnessed as much hysteria, and even though I was a relative outsider having lived in the town for only six years, I never understood why this old recluse struck such terror into these backwoods folk. Oh, I had heard the stories; of how Dixie was over a hundred and twelve years old, how he was the product of his Creole mother being raped by the local plantation owner, and how the feared 'Voodoo Queen' Marie Laveau, herself, had invoked 'dark' spirits to protect the newborn child throughout his life.

Nothing but ignorant 'Mumbo Jumbo' as far as I'm concerned.... 'though there is the local legend of the Halloween night when three local boys broke into Old Dixie's cabin for a prank.....

The boys were just 17 at the time, hellraisers they were. The story goes that they'd all been smoking weed and thought it would be funny to scare Old Dixie by breaking into his cabin whilst he slept, they all decided to wear voodoo masks in a bid to terrify and provoke the old man, quietly they crept up to the cabin and forced the door open, each of the boys put on their masks and snook into the cabin, legend says that when those boys were found the next day quivering in the woods behind a broken down oak tree......their faces were replaced by the voodoo masks.....but to me that is just a story and i know what i have to do......

So as the strange creature called Cal slowly crawled towards me - bringing me back to the present - I looked at 'its' useless, lifeless legs, dragging along the floor behind its grotesquely misshapen body, and my fear was inexplicably replaced by sympathy. I slackened my grip on the knife, and retrieved from my pocket the piece of salt fish I had wrapped in my handkerchief. I threw the salt fish onto the floor and Cal stopped dead. The creature lowered his head to sniff the fish, momentarily forgetting about me, and I bolted towards the stairs to make my escape. I took the steps two at a time, my heart pounding. Behind me, the creature let out an unholy roar then started to slither in pursuit. I had almost reached the bottom step when....

......a bright light shone in my face, i felt my body lift into the air and it felt like i was being pulled through a tunnel, the speed was breathtaking i was moving through the air so fast i could barely breathe, and then....i was waking on a bed surrounded by monitors, there were people all around me, i quickly realised i was back at base, a familiar pair of eyes was looking into mine...."Jo...." i gasped, "it's ok soldier, your back and safe....just rest and then we'll go over what you saw....ok?"

I had to start piecing it together......what did i see? And where was i when i saw the strange creature called Cal?

I suddenly stumbled and fell flat on my face, not even a second had passed and I could already feel my nose swelling to the size of a watermelon, blood snot and what I can only imagine to be little pieces of cartilage splattered everywhere but I could hear the terrifying creature fast approaching so I somehow managed to drag my self up from the floor and stumbled through the nearest door hoping to make my escape, to my horror I realised I was now standing at the top of the cellar steps, the cold, dark, musty cellar........

..standing on the top steps of the cold, dark, musty cellar and looking into Jo's eyes, I could see that this wasn't a dream...the look of fear on Jo's face told me this was very real...

...'Who is Cal..?'..I whispered to him....


...Joe took out his pipe, the flame from the match flickered in the darkness as he slowly lit it and raised his eyes to mine...

...'I knew that one day, you would ask this question and that I would have to speak that name again........'....

....i'm afraid to tell you that......40 years ago your mother was abducted by the Kleinbobs.....they did experiments on her......and......and............................. ...............

"And what" i shouted.

Cal is your...........brother...........

...*GASP*...


...'All of these years, we have had to hide her in the cellar so no one would know the truth, not even you because we knew that just knowing would put you in danger from the despicably evil .......'....

.......Trunder.....he's the Kleinbob ruler, he thinks Cal died at birth........Cal has special powers, powers so powerful they could destroy us all...."Joe drew the pipe to his lips and inhaled deeply, the orange glow from his pipe lit up his face eerily......"we have to go" he shouted "i'll explain more if we survive".......we ran down the cellar steps, and spotted a bunker door above us, i pushed against the door and it swung open, i helped Joe out "give me your hand" he screamed "Cal's coming".......i grabbed Joe's hand and.........
