I have contacted friends and family today who I know voted Lib Dem in 2010 and have yet to find one of them even watching the Lib Dem conference.
I have watched it and am infuriated at them saying they can be the party to curb the extremes of left and right as long as neither Conservatives or Labour get an overall majority. That from a party that has allowed legislation and supported same too, of some of the most extreme right wing heartless policies ever over this last 4+ years. What a bunch of hypocrites. |

If they hadn't formed a Lib/Con coalition, I would have actually considered voting for them in 2020 (when I'm old enough), however now absolutely not. They aren't trustworthy imo. Greens all the way!

From all they promised and said, I voted for them because I thought if they went into coalition with the Conservatives, that they would reduce the severity of the cuts, ensure the NHS was safe, not allow the doubling of tuition fees and protect the vulnerable. Equally, I voted for them too because I believed were they to form a coalition with Labour, that they would ensure less or no more borrowing, that Labour would strive to halve the deficit in 4 years. To hold Labour to their health and Social care plans as to the NHS and ensure Labour, with them, worked to protect the recovery that was in place at the 2010 election and to nurture the growth further that was in place. Never in a million years would I have believed they could have supported so many extreme heartless policies in return for a miserable few Cabinet positions and a time of 5 years of shared power,as they have these in this Parliament. Tough for the Lib Dems holding their conference last when Labour and the Tories have nicked two of their core policies; the mansion tax and the increasing the tax free threshold to Ł12,500
It's not a popular opinion but I have a lot of sympathy and time for the Lib Dems, I feel they did what they needed to do and what was in the public interest in forming a coalition and that they've fought tooth and nail to uphold their values and water down Tory policies as much as they feasibly can as the minority partner |

In truth, they should have been the stronger element in this coalition, the reality for the minority Conservative party was that without the Lib Dems they could get nothing passed at all really. So where did the NHS reforms come from, neither party in the coalition had them in their manifesto, yet they got supported by the Lib Dems. The severity of the policies against the most vulnerable, where did the support for those come from the Lib Dems. In 2010 the Lib Dems were more to the left of politics than Labour, yet they could support such measures. There are really only 3 things the Lib Dems can take any credit for, that was the AV referendum, they never even pushed for a full PR referendum or discussion. That was lost. The 2nd thing was the legislation to ensure the Govt stayed in power for the full 5 years, that was only in their own interest too. The final thing was the increasing of the tax threshold, which really the Conservatives would have likely done but would have also done for the top end of paying tax too again. All they have done is allow something like 70% of the Conservative manifesto and further extreme policies get through Parliament. The problem for the Lib Dems now are, that voters haven't a clue what their values or principles are anymore, what they thought they stood for,no matter the policy, they have seen them thow out completely for a time in Govt. So why should they be believed again. The media could simply replay the whole 2010 election campaign as to the Lib Dems, saying this what they said needed to be done and then look at what they supported. It would be massively enlightening and and also a massive condemnation of the principles of the Lib Dems under Nick Clegg's leadership and it is why, no matter whatever else happens in 2015, they will be heavily hit by the voters who did put their trust in them and who have had to wait a full 5 years to get their votes back to now use against them. That's my take on the Lib Dems now anyway and I was one who did trust them, never ever again. |

This morning they are moaning about the benefit system being too complex and people being sanctioned as to benefits along with homelessness yet they have supported in full all of Ian Duncan Smith's rotten policies.
The Lib Dems bring a whole new meaning to the word hypocrisy. I dare predict,if there is a hung parliament and they could only put the Conservatives into Govt. again, that then for some more crumbs as to policy, they would turn their backs again on the most vulnerable people of the UK for another 5 years of shared power incuding the benefits freeze they are moaning against this morning. |

they aided the watering down of policies? I'd hate to see what kind of 'big society' we'd have now if they hadn't.. I assume they successfully blocked the under 9s chimney sweeping apprenticeships and the knotting and unknotting of rope for the unemployed?

Oh it's no secret now, it's screamingly obvious that Clegg, Cable and others are more than happy creaming off whatever floats their way after the tories have churned up as much of the countries assets as they could.

Well maybe they saved the little urchins, but I'm pretty sure the rope knotting actually got through with a couple of adjustments.

Watching it this morning it looked like even there they were almost talking to a near empty hall really.
All I am hearing from most of those I communicate with off here is that they just don't believe anything any of them say now. |
