Singer Alexander O’Neal has admitted the stress of appearing on Celebrity Big Brother drove him to taking crack cocaine in a terrifying drugs relapse.

After storming off the show three weeks ago, the soul star, 61, resorted to bingeing on the class A drug while staying in a London hotel. He paid for two deliveries from a young dealer in the space of 14 hours.

Yesterday the Criticize and If You Were Here Tonight singer vowed he would get clean.

In a statement to the Sunday Mirror, his spokesman said: “It has been extensively reported how this series of CBB has been one of the most stressful and volatile in the history of the show.

“It has been *documented in the past that Alexander has had issues that have led to him seeking professional help and treatment.

“This was a momentary relapse, completely out of his recent *character and behaviour and he will certainly be addressing and dealing with this immediately.

“Alexander has a lot of positive projects to look forward to over the next few months, including a tour and new material he is working on, and hopes this momentary lapse will not interfere with those.

“He asks his fans to forgive him and apologises if he has let any of you down.”

O’Neal has been staying in the hotel near Wembley Stadium since he left the Big Brother House after calling gossip blogger Perez Hilton a “********t”. Between visits to the recording studio with the likes of Basement Jaxx and meetings with X Factor finalist Jay James, O’Neal has fuelled his addiction.

Two weeks ago the star was photographed withdrawing £300 from a cash machine.

A dealer wearing a padded jacket later turns up at his room. The pusher then leaves in a waiting car before coming back the following morning.

As well as cocaine, O’Neal bought marijuana from him.

Staff said the star was a regular guest when visiting the UK. A source said: “He has been staying there at the hotel for weeks and always asks for the top floor because it is the only one you can smoke on.

“You could smell the drugs in the corridor. He has looked shocking when did come out.”

On Tuesday O’Neal collected his pay for CBB, which is believed to be worth up to £75,000.

And last week he signed a* *lucrative deal for a string of live performances across the UK later this year. O’Neal has previously told how he got hooked on cocaine when he hit the big time in the 1980s.

Before he left Big Brother he bonded with housemate Keith Chegwin as the pair discussed their addictions.

He said: “I’ve been in several treatments for drugs. Cocaine.

“The counsellor was saying, ‘You’re never going to get off the drugs unless you get that chip off your shoulder’.”

I agree. No wonder Perez said he didn't feel safe. He was withdrowing from the drugs and that explains his aggressive behavior and him wanting to leave.

Valid points,well said, it is interesting that he went straight for them again the moment he left the BB house almost.

It may even explain, with no real issues for him at that time, except for Katie Hopkins nominating him for being,in her view, the least entertaining on launch night,why from day 3 he was always saying he wanted to be out.

It's very sad he has/had this addiction but he clearly doesn't seem clear of it enough to have fallen right back into it,if the article is true.
He maybe should have thought harder before going in as you said.

Perez was blamed for the removal of three housemates, but in reality he had nothing to do with it. It makes me so mad!

No doubt the others will sell loads of stories in the press slagging off Perez. The only way they can stay relevant. Says a lot that Perez himself has stayed qiet and simply said "the truth will come out soon".

Personally I think Perez will give his opinion on went on in the house on his blog, once he is back in America.

Can't see him staying silent over his time in the house.

He did said that he only went on loose women because Nadia asked him to do so.

I usually have a lot of sympathy for some people who have gone into a drug hell and truely want to come off them but find it hard to get off them. Somehow though I just think Alexander is making excuses for his own lack of willpower and his reckless drug use.

I have no sympathy for drug addicts at all. These people are weak willed and irresponsible to get into drugs in the first place.

I think he's likely to kick the **** off his boots and never look back, and rightly so. He brought so much personality, humour, smartness and wit into the show, and the way he has been treated was uncalled for. He's a drama queen and he seemed to have a mania thing happening, but he was mostly just trying to entertain everyone, and I for one found him very funny and very colourful. Most of the other housemates were just jealous of him stealing "their" camera time and Katie Hopkins wanted him isolated to limit his exposure because she wanted to win so badly that she was practically gagging for it.

It's one thing tempers flaring in the house, where people are having to cope longer-term, but it's quite another for presenters to be so obnoxious and judgemental. He has been described as "vile" and "odious" by presenters and panel guests, while the racist bigot and bully Hopkins won cheers. Eamon Holmes was absolutely horrible about Perez, and BOTS seemed to line up a firing squad of people who hated him. It seemed spiteful, hateful, ungrateful and malicious. Presumably it was their revenge for his prima donna behaviour on the show. How petty, vicious and unkind it looked. Thank Christ I am not English. I'd be ashamed to the core of my being.
