Default Do Teachers get too many bloody holidays?

How do you feel about all the holidays teachers get. Should they be forced to work for the community good during the holidays that are designed for children?

You know, when the kids go off school on these holidays the teachers workload doesn't just stop until the kids come back?

I remember in high school, the teachers were back in almost 2 whole weeks before the end of the summer break.

I don't know what it's like there

But here my kids teachers apply for unemployment benefits in the summer... I have even heard of them applying for it during the Christmas break. Plus most of them take 2 to 4 weeks holidays during the school year leaving the kids with substitutes that have no idea what is going on.

Yeah, something about how that all goes down bothers me

So they work 40 weeks instead of the 38 (give or take) in the academic year. That's still three months off. And they take INSET days during school time. Training should be done during their extremely long holidays.

That's down to the external speakers/tutors who come in for seminars/meetings etc. They schedule when they can come into the school so by and large when this inset day takes place is out of the actual school's hands.

Well, I doubt those two weeks are the only weeks outside of term time they worked. It was just an example that I recalled from my own school.

And as I said earlier a lot of the training days have external influence so isn't down to the teachers/school themselves as to when they are held.

You are right,
Many work a lot of the School holidays Marsh, not just those 2 weeks.

My friend is a primary teacher. She works one extra week per year, and she's not alone.

At my school teachers are paid in holidays, they get 17 weeks holiday break - which is a lot considering some people don't even have 2 weeks, but most of the teachers work hard.

So?

All professions work differently.

Let's lynch people who work in a job which provides a different working pattern to my own.

Teachers take a lot of their work home with them, producing presentations, stuff to teach, tests etc. It's far more than a 9-5 job. I know that new teachers usually don't leave the school building until gone 8 because of the amount of work to do.

They also teach a vast amount of children, not just one class. I doubt they don't do any work through week breaks etc. with the amount of essays and tests to mark etc.

I remember my teacher telling me that they are paid for the months that they are there, but the salary is spread out across the year, so that they don't go penny-less over the summer. So they are only being paid during term time, so to speak.

teachers are over paid, some of them are lazy, arrogant, argue to much, they like to tell you the truth but don't take it well when you tell them some home truths back, at my school they where paid to much and would treat us like we where not able to learn any thing, and then there was the other ones, that expected us to know what this is in are work, they just throw a book at the table and did not help us very much,
