No, it was a two part question really, one is would you want to be immortal and the other would you be prepared to kill for that immortality, if it wasn't meant to be two part than the question would just have been would you like to be immortal, surely?

What a thoughtful and lovely post.

I agree!

If it was some random person, no. If it was a b*st*rd who deserved to die, yes.

...maybe over-thinking it but...

..as Niamh said, I could never imagine taking a life..maybe I could in some circumstances but it's not something that I could imagine ever happening...

...but with the immortality...well, obviously as others have said, it would be the pain of forever watching the people you loved die...and even if you thought...oh I won't allow myself closeness to people, then that would be an immortal and everlasting time on your own...and what if it was more like a Groundhog Day thing and your immortality kept you in the moment of you having killed that person, the pain that you felt with that...what if you never left that moment or those feelings but you just kept on feeling them...also, with experiences if you were immortal...?...what if, say you wanted to be in the eye of a tornado or something and you were seriously injured because immortal doesn't mean that you couldn't be close to death/feel agony of injuries..and then that physical pain became immortal and endless...or any situation you may want to witness through time that you could be injured in and have an eternity with those injuries...or you could still either have or maybe get a 'terminal' disease but it just wouldn't end for you...you could be terminally ill and suffer all of the deteriorations but just not the death...immortal wouldn't necessarily mean physically or emotionally healthy..I've seen Death Becomes Her...I've also seen Age of Adaline and I think you would also have an eternity off 'hiding' because if anyone were to discover your deathlessness, you'd pretty much become like an alien and be hunted down for scientific purposes....so I think it would be../be careful what you wish for ...

Tough call. Broadly, yes, I'd do it but there would be deal-breakers;

- When I decide I want to give up the immortality, I can.

- I wouldn't kill anyone I know (and like. if they're an arsehole then whatever...)

- I wouldn't kill a child.

- I wouldn't simply be arrested for the killing / locked up in a laboratory forever because of my immortality abilities.

Beyond that... Yeah I'd do it.

Well it would be tempting, it's something that's really hard to tell unless you somehow experienced it.

Could you pick who you wanted to kill or is it just one random person that I have to kill to gain immortality?

...actually you may not kill a child but this immortality may not be offered to just one person so someone else may quite easily kill a child and your first immortal agony may be that someone killed you child as their 'condition'...a bit like the movie The Gift../I watch a lot of movies so I know the score .../yep, be careful what you wish for..

Do I get to choose who I kill? I'd kill someone in a euthanasia scenario. And I'd like to be immortal if I had the choice to end it if I changed my mind. So yes I'll do it!

But in this fictional world where immortality is on offer, that could surely happen whether I accept it or not? Like... Me saying "no" to it doesn't guarantee that someone else won't kill me or mine as part of their own condition...

..yeah I guess so but for me, the first thought I would have is that I would without any question of possibility, outlive my children and so it would always be a no... because it would also take away the possibility of ever loving and having children again through my immortality and having to experience that again and again and again until the end of time ..and after someone had lived all of that time and experienced everything then there would be no one to re-tell/recount to because they would have out-lived everyone...

No, I recall that film of Oscar Wilde's book,'The picture of Dorian Gray'.

You would really in effect end up being a freak, no for me and I would hate the thought of actually killing someone else anyway.
