Default Klopp @ Liverpool: bitten off more than he can chew?

Klopp is a great manager, Bundesliga titles, CL final, cups etc. Even in disastrous last season he managers to pull Borussia Dortmund from bottom relegation position to middle table and win the cup.

However, I think it's now dawning on him that he has a bigger task of hauling LFC out of almost 20 years of League title underachievement and clean up blundering Brendan Rodgers' mess. He can't just waltz in to EPL as a genius and win games just because he's Jurgen Klopp, the Bundesliga master tactician. Also he seems to have realised he can't just easily take on "amateurs" such as on Eddie Howe or Alex Neil sides and win 8-1.

He looked genuinely stunned and shell shocked that Leicester - despite topping table - could beat them 2-0 (especially as LFC beat them on boxing day maintaining their record of never losing on that day). It's an "anyone can beat anyone on their day" league. So Man City can lose at home to West Ham. Arsenal lose 4-0 v Soton. Injury ravaged Bournemoth can hold their own against Leicester City and beat Chelsea and Man U. Norwich matched LFC during that epic 5-4 victory recently and its now hitting Jurgen that it's all very well beating Soton 1-6 but Soton can beat Liverpool 6-1.

I think he's now realized he's going to have to do a bit more than take bows when LFC draw WBA, lovingly stroke Adam Lallana's bum, coax Benteke to attack, hug Firmino and play the paternal father figure role to Mignolet and give tough love to injured Sturridge. He's beginning to look like a scared man who realises he has a very very tough task ahead...

He is doing his best with a terrible sqaud and it going to be another 2/3 transfer windows for that too change.

Rodgers brought a bunch of average players who are not good enough now Klopp has been left to clear up his mess

Aha, but the whole Klopp, LVG need time to transition excuse is wasted when you see where Leicester were this time last season with Nigel Pearson, bottom in relegation zone and at one point 7 points adrift of Burnley but went on a recent run from February. Step forward Ranieri, step forward table toppers, title contenders, a team next season more likely to play against Angers, Roma, Schalke, Barcelona (but most likely in failed qualifier against Midtjlland ) in Champions League. Liverpool have more resources than Leicester (despite wealthy Thai owners) and definitely more resources than Watford and yet Vardy and Ighalo are outscoring Rodgers' £32m man Benteke.*

Benteke is getting 4x what Vardy's earns. Will Liverpool end up finishing higher this season than with mid table Rodgers? Don't get me wrong, LFC are historically a great club, Klopp a decent passionate manager, but he is very much up to his neck in it, it's just funny seeing the realisation of the huge mess he's got himself into, and he blatantly now realises Plan A,B and C won't work.

*If Klopp is smart he will sell Benteke to a "rich suger daddy more money than sense" Chinese team and probably recoup all £32m

Ok, firstly this is Brendan's squad. If Klopp can equal what Brendan was doing with his own team then he's already doing well. Secondly, anybody that has seen Brendan's record with us against the other big clubs will know that we wouldn't have beaten City or Chelsea in those games, so automatically we are 6 points worse off than we are now (which would have us placed in 14th). Thirdly, pretty much all of our most important players are, or have been injured for long periods under Klopp (Coutinho, Sturridge, Henderson, all the CB's, all the other strikers that aren't Benteke).

We haven't won a trophy in 4 years and he has the chance to win one after being here for 4 months, which says a lot. But he can't be judged really until he can put his own stamp on this team next season, because aside from 3 or 4 players the rest aren't capable of what his tactics demand.

  1. Inheriting Rodger's squad? Like Ranieri inherited Nigel Pearson's squad at Leicester?
  2. Injuries? Like Eddie Howe at Bournemouth?

Yes, because what has happened at Leicester isn't one of the most rare things to ever happen in football, is it? And yes.. like Bournemouth.. in 15th.

Agree with Locke. Its not Klopps squad so his results so far have been fair but not unexpected.

Don't really buy into the witch-hunts after like 3 months (if that?)

Give him at least until the end of next season to see how things change.

Most successful managers in the past have had more downs than ups when they first arrived at their clubs.. I'll only start to judge a manager on what he can do with the squad he builds himself.

But Liverpool and City have a much bigger squads than Bournemouth, more strength in depth, plus most of Eddie Howe's first team are injured. Yet Eddie with barely much more than a show string has never publically mentioned the injuries and managed to beat Chelsea away and Man U back to back. So Liverpool have no excuse. Sorry Klopp. City and Liverpool second string squad is still superior to Bournemouth. Squad 2nd stringers Bony , Nasri, Delph, Mangala (City), Origi, Dunne, Ings, Gomez Flanagan Brad Smith etc are far superior to anything Bournemouth have

You do realize that Bournemouth are still very much in the relegation battle, don't you?

Bournemouth are more likely to stay up (Aston Villa almost occupy 1 relegation slot)

Hopefully they do, but they have still struggled throughout the season until the past few weeks.

What I meant to say was Bournemouth are more likely to stay up in EPL than Liverpool are to mount a successful title or top 4 challenge.

Jurgen Klopp admits there's no quick fix at "special club" Liverpool

Klopp hasn't been a miracle cure for the Reds since replacing Brendan Rodgers in October but the German is confident he can turn the club's fortunes around

Klopp knows it will take time to return Liverpool to the top
Jurgen Klopp has admitted there is no quick fix at Anfield, despite feeling he's at a “special club”.

The German hosted a media day for journalists from his own country at Liverpool's Melwood training ground today, and during a question and answer session with TV, he admitted there is huge expectation because of the history of the famous old club.

But the former Dortmund boss believes that even if he does everything right at his new club, the money spent by the Manchester clubs and Chelsea makes it tough to deliver success quickly.

And he joked that even though he's on much more money at Anfield, his hourly rate is probably the same as in Germany, because the working conditions are far more intense than his previous managerial roles.
Poor Klopp.

Bib: Money spent ? What about Ranieri?

OT: Locke, Just realised that's Daniel Sturridge in your signature wearing a "Do the Sturridge" cap. He's definitely not a hipster despite what they say.

Now that Klopp is back in Germany at Augsberg for tonight's Europa league match, if. LCFC don't get a result, I predict he'll do a runner to evade RAWK mob and disappear in the middle of the night never to be season for 2 years and then spotted managing St Pauli.

Still think he joined Liverpool to cash in on Klopp @ the Kopp headlines.
