Default More to the Andy/Hughie thing?

Yeah I am a massive Andy fan and admit he looked a ****ing idiot tonight (though it was the funniest meltdown all series so I love him MORE for it anyway ) and I am not trying to rationalize what seemed like such an epic breakdown over nothing at all but...

Is there a chance that there was a lot more to that than was shown? I ask as everyone outside (and Jackson inside too) was on Andys side. Sam seemed offended by it. Alex piped up (shock horror ) and everyone who was outside, with the exception of Laura seemed to be on Andys side. Jason, who seems the most levelheaded in there was on Andys side, and even tried to chill Hughie about it all too.

It just seems so...odd, that so many would be offended (or understand the offense taken) if it was simply how it seemed to us?

Does that make sense?

I think Hughie and Ryan deliberately did it to take a pop at Andys engagement to Ed.... I think that's why many took Andys side.

Yeah I am leaning more to this myself now that I think about it properly

Still a massively bizarre reaction though.

As for the housemates reactions, on DS it was pointed out that they probably didn't actually understand what was going on so took the safe road of siding with the person ranting about gay rights...which makes sense

Jackson took his side because that's what you do when a friend comes to you furious, he had no idea what had gone on but you just say what the person wants to hear to comfort them imo

Sam only agreed because he hates the Hughie/Ryan pairing...I think the only person speaking any logic was Laura, it was just a joke...Andy literally looks down on them normally and he has been in the diary room today calling Hughie thick

Don't think that was Ryan & Hughie intention at all, not one bit. But I can see how someone who has suffered and fought would find it inappropriate.
I also feel like Andy got so upset because his own engagement just happened and so it really hit close to home. We know Hughie does and says things in the moment to get reactions and get screentime and Ryan would go along with it. Do I think they meant it maliciously? No, but do I think they are in a place of a bit higher privilege and were taking the piss a bit, yes.

Yes it makes perfect sense....since when did everyone support Andy like that ? just like BB unfarely showed only a micro second of Alex visit from home, they prob only showed part of what really took place with Hughie and Ryan. This year more than ever BB are manipulating the audience with their edits.
I was surprised that Sam was also mature enough to see how flippant and disrespectful those two were being.

Me too, as it was happening I felt sure that they were doing that...to mock and disrespect his relationship like that and to do it by also making a joke of something he has such strong principles about was a double blow....they are dispicable the pair of them.

Seems to me that it doesn't matter how personally hurtful or vindictive someone behaves it's always acceptable by a lot of people if it's being done to Andy. Things that would be slammed if they were done to anyone else are seen as fair game if they're done to Andy....there's a word for that.

I second this post. Well spotted Vicky, I think you are right. There is more to Hughie and Ryan's innocent joke than meets the eye I think.

On another note, I was wondering if Andy has had discussions about his passion for gay rights with Jason, Jackson, Sam or Alex or all of them? Losing his job with the BBC over it and such? They are in there day and night and have to be talking about all kinds that we don't see. Is that why they understood where he was coming from too?

agree, hughie and ryan are desperate attention seekers..
they tried to take shine away from andy's high moment of his life.. and perhaps succeeded.. however, nobody thought the joke was funny in the house..

By using such heavy words and bringing up history, "stoned to death", "thrown off buildings", he knew what he was doing. He knows by saying this, none of the other HMs would be "against" him due to the severity of his comparisons. If they thought he was being ridiculous, they'd be scared to say in the likelihood they thought they'd come across as homophobic.

Clever from sneaky Andy. Had Andy not used those phrases, more people would have disagreed with him. He knew what he was doing.

Hughie and Ryan knew what they were doing also. It's apparent they wanted more camera time and take some shine away from Andy's best moment of his life, and they succeeded and dampened the moment. The joke wasn't funny, nobody laughed, nobody really believed. Andy is also sensitive about gay rights issue and he worked on some such projects himself. He may have taken the issue too far, but I can see clearly he was personally hurt by the joke.

He shouldn't be on TV at all if jokes as non offensive as what was tonight are getting that treatment. I didn't think the "joke" was funny, just 2 people trying to have a laugh.

You'd think being in his 30s and a journalist, he'd be a more thick skinned.

History in this country.

I don't know why Andy went to compare something happening in a completely different part of the world to a joke. It doesn't happen HERE, that's what I'm saying. He could have said something along the lines as "we fight for this in this country" and leave it. There was no justification at all regarding what he said.

Oh I'm sure he has. This is when having a live feed would be great because we'd get to know a bit more about the housemates and see them as they really are, unedited and all.

I have to say Hughie has gone down in my estimations this week. Ryan not so much, since it's obvious that he lives for the cameras.

Yes, me too. Shame really. There's not much there but a foul temper, a mouthy attitude and a false charm that doesn't fool me any longer.

I dont think there was more to it. Sam has been looking for a reason to hate Hughie and Chelsea, Jason and Jackson just like to play the moral highground.
