Default Miserable workers.

Does anyone else find this annoying and unprofessional?

A few times I've been served by people who look miserable and sound like they can't be bothered, It makes me feel awkward and pretty uncomfortable and I also find it actually rude. I like to think the customers are more important at work than whatever the assistant is thinking that's not serious like they hate their job, they hate people etc, obviously you can't force a smile, but they should actually make the customer feel welcomed and let them know you can go to them for their help, looking miserable etc is going to make the customer feel nervous going up to them.

Just look at it from their point of view too. They could have been there long hours, their boss or colleague could be the absolute worst, customers could be shouting abuse at them all day. It's also what time of day you catch them. In the morning and just after lunch employees remember they're suppose to be upbeat at all times.

Also they may be wanting to kill themselves because their life and job is ****. Or maybe their partner cheated on them with some Spaniard named Pablo.

Don't blame them really but it isn't very pleasant if you're the customer.

It really bothers me when it happens, but...

...this is true. Working with the public can be one of the most stressful jobs, depending what kind of day you've had, and some people just find it harder to put on a fake smile, and imagine how hard it would be doing that for hours on end. If they were getting paid a fortune then I'd probably say they should just have to suffer it but truth is a lot of them are probably underpaid for what they do. So yeah I can't help being really annoyed when I get someone unpleasant, but thinking about it I don't really blame them tbh.

(Although sometimes I think some people are just generally miserable and hate the public)

The one time I saw a worker that was miserable in Game, he seemed really sulky when I'd try to talk to him and it was making me feel awkward.

When I started to leave the shop I saw this girl hurling abuse at him for putting the wrong disc in her Game calling him a wanker and all sorts, which is when I understood why he might be sulky if that's the kind of abuse he had been getting all day.

100% since this is my work life. Doing labor all day and dealing with costumers does bring out the worst in me.

Dealing with customers is the worst part of retail. For every lovely customer you're likely going to get ten people who are openly hostile towards you or just act like you're some robot built to serve.

It pisses me off too. I worked in retail for 2 and a half years and I can say I was never like that, like it's not that hard to make the customer feel welcome or at least pretend to be upbeat. But yes, I suppose it does depend on that person's situation and how their day has went, etc.

Sorry but getting minimum wage for a job you hate dealing with smelly and unruly customers and being upset about it is more important than giving you a smile because you're too scared to ask where the chocolate is.

I work in retail and I honestly try to be as nice as possible and serve people with a smile on my face but now and then you get really horrible customers and I've been called names, threatened and sworn at - it does get to you and it can make you feel really crappy.

Some people who work in places are miserable and probably shouldn't work with the public but others may have suffered a twat of a customer and it's hard to be smiley after being insulted or shouted at for just doing your job

Having worked in a public service job, I understand the hating people part of it Our service workers though are very lucky we don't have an American style pay system, where they pretty much only get paid if they are good at their job and put in effort rather than moping around with a face like thunder

Customer abuse comes with the job really as it happens to every worker but I don't think a nice customer has to suffer with a assistant that acts really cold and miserable.

Although, I do hate at our local shop the young girl who works there on a weekend practically throws your change at you. Every time without fail some coins roll onto the floor.

I don't want a chirpy, chatty person behind tils when I'm buying stuff, I don't need to know about your cousin's hernia leave me be,

I don't however blame people in retail for being miserable when they have to deal with the twats that are about these days, it's not in their job description to be happy, as long as you're getting served, who cares what mood they're in?

Complain about her imo. Think of the elderly customers who have bend down and get their change.

Customer abuse should not be part of working with the public at all, I actually find that quite insulting - Do I deserve to be called a 'stupid ****' for asking a person who looks younger than 21 for ID?

Do I deserve to be told 'wait til you finish work' by a 40 odd year old man because he forgot to click the button for cash back?
