Default My pro women thread...

In light of the endless false claims of my so called anti female sexism , Id like to start a thread celebrating women and some of my favourites

In my part of the world, we saw the first ever female atlantic crossing, when amelie earheart flew a plane from america to a small welsh village called burry port....another is the great warrior princess gwenllian who was the first known female war leader fighting the normans 900 years ago ...the female cockle pickers of south wales made more money than their husbands too...the welsh had laws for equality over 500 years ago, but were invaded and the laws overriden by english laws

As for actresses, well has there been a greater legend that maureen ohara? I think not. stunning, feisty, talented, passionate , eloquent, honest ....betty davis, smart , forthright, intelligent, original...ingrid bergman...oh boy, classy, smart, versatile, elegant, funny , mysterious and drop dead gorgeous

singers the list is endless, from aretha franklin, to barbara streisand, to dolly parton, etta james, tina turner, bonnie tyler, diana ross, joplin, warwick, karen carpenter, blondie, ella fitzgerald, nina simeone, dusty springfield, annie lennox,

sports stars, one of my faves the amazing steffi graf, serena and martina navrat...nadia comaneci the greatest gymnast, jayne torville, greatest ever skater, annika sorenstam and laura davies the 2 greatest female golfers, florence griffith joyner, paula radcliffe, dame kelly holmes, tanni grey, jess ennis, vivky pendleton , nicola adams etc etc

literary giants, range from jane austen to agatha christie , to enid blyton, mary shelley, charlotte bronte, to harper lee, jk rowling to danielle steele to virginia wolf , anna frank, barbara cartland , emily dickinson and beatrix potter...etc

political figures, span the centuries...from our own queens elizabeth and victoria, russian empress catherine the great, going all the way back to BC with cleopatra, in recent decades... israeli PM golda meir, legendary pacifists and spiritual leaders, princes grace kelly, ang san suu indira ghandi, mother teresa, Diana princess of wales etc etc there have been 100s of female political leaders across the world and many are viewed as strong leaders, especially those I have outlined

But outside of the fame and fortune what of all those women who volunteer their to help those who need help, missionary or charity work, help with groups that deal with mental health, depression and the network of disabled organizations across the country and the western world...

These are the types of people and the types of stories young men and women need to hear about...positive strong people who give their all and seek to make the world a better place. This is what inspires the next generation

I salute all these women

Did The Truth finally land that special girl he has been looking for.... causing all these mushy sentiments about women??

I'll chime in with a few that have inspired this lady along the way:

Authors: Margaret Atwood, Alice Monroe, Maya Angelou, Mavis Gallant, Amy Tan, Jane Austin, the Bronte sisters

Musicians: Tracy Chapman, Lauryn Hill, Imogen Heep, Aretha Franklin, Diana Krall, Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline

Actors: Carrie Fisher, Toni Collette, Claire Danes, Marilyn Monroe, Whoopi Goldberg (for the colour purple alone she will have my adoration), Jodi Foster, Lucille Ball..... this list could get longer if I thought for awhile.

...I celebrate and salute not only those who help/females in charities etc..but those who suffer from and specifically single mothers who suffer from mental health issues, depression, addictions, not having had privilege in their education/not being given any self worth themselves when they were the children and not the parent..not having job opportunities and etc etc...who struggle to just get to the end of each day...those who desperately need support from those charities/the very reason why those charities have to exist...who need that social support and care and care from the community around them but what they sadly all to often get is judgement in the choices they make..they may 'fail' in how society..(and the Daily Mail..)...so sadly often sees failing but so many try their very best and do their very best in as much as their coping abilities can give them...I celebrate and salute all of those women who need the existence of charities and social care and great friends and great neighbours and great understanding and not judgement...care for the parent/care of the child(ren)...

I agree with a lot of the choices already put forward, but I must add one name to this list;

Violette Szabo; the beautiful young mother - an Ingrid Bergman lookalike - who fought behind enemy lines and was captured, tortured and executed by the Nazis on February 5th 1945.

Margaret Thatcher has been named the worst Prime Minister of the last 100 years, closely beating fellow Conservative David Cameron in a new survey of leading historical writers.

The Historical Writers’ Association (HWA) asked its members to give their views on the last 19 Prime Ministers, in a survey released to mark Theresa May’s 100th day in office on 22 October.

Baroness Thatcher, who died in 2013, came first with 24% of the vote, closely followed by Mr Cameron (22%) and Neville Chamberlain (17%).

Tony Blair took 11% to leave him in fourth spot, while Gordon Brown and Sir Edward Heath were tied for fifth place with 8%.

Any survey which puts Margaret Thatcher BEHIND Tony Blair, Neville Chamberlain, Gordon Brown, and the abhorrent Ted Heath, in a list of 'Greatest Prime Ministers', says far more about the personal prejudices of those surveyed, than it does about their rationality and acumen - in my opinion.
