Default Something else that slipped under the radar during the US elections

The British government rejects the UN document which claims UK welfare reforms are guilty of “grave and systematic violations” of disabled people’s rights.

Yes, I think that was a big reason for us being hauled out of the EU... They were investigating us for human rights violations :/

What makes it so bad is that it was clearly a conscious decision to target disabled people, as they could be portrayed as a drain on the rest of society. The last 6 years have put rights for disabled people back 50 years, which is nothing short of a national scandal which should be headline news on the television and in newspapers. That it isn't is nothing short of a disgrace.

Yup, disabled people serve no purpose and the elderly have served their purpose therefore they should do the right thing and off themselves.
Same with the homeless, poor and mentally ill, if they can't get their act together then...

Hi DR

Curious, but why is the UN looking specifically into UK welfare? What do they get out of this? Never heard of an American study here from them or really anyone externally, so it's new territory to me. Or maybe just never heard one cited anyway. Would be nice if we had an outsiders perspective to put pressure... every little bit hwlps.

I have nothing else really to contribute because not sure how our systems compare with the UK. I know our Disability in general is not that great. Very hard to make ends meet, if at all. Our healthcare is OK, but finding a doctor that takes Medicare can be difficult at times. A great doctor anyway. Obamacare has made that harder because more have dropped the coverage of those patients because it is hard to do business with Medicare specifically.

Hi Maru

It comes under the 'World Health organization' division and is one of the six principle organs of the UN. The ICJ have an obligation to look into complaints about health and welfare of UN member states.

Why wouldn't they, is it not a benefit that the UN are self regulating? They are not 'outsiders'...We are united, as in states or kingdoms.

I know we work with them on a lot of things diplomatically speaking, but didn't know they went as far as to conduct studies on all members... we learn something new everyday!

I haven't seen you around recently. Hope you are back to post!...

It does indeed Joey.

McDonnell pledges Labour will force government to debate UN ‘rights violations’ report. http://www.disabilitynewsservice.com/11577-2/

Hi TS. I didn't leave because I didn't have confidence in my argument
but because, at least in this place, I'd lost the ability to ignore the trolls.
