I personally do feel the Churches need to update their services/masses.
Having said that I used to love midnight mass when I was a child and respected the whole event.

Sadly now the Catholic church has all but done away with midnight mass on Christmas eve now and it s now deemed you have been to Church on a Saturday if you attend a evening mass on the Saturday.

Having said that, I do still go to mass on Christmas eve and also at Easter, not so general weeks of the year but on those occasions the Catholic Churches I have attended are full completely.
Usually people are standing inside the Church and into the porch area too.

However, I feel there is no compulsion to go to Church anymore but maybe people now just are choosing to live out their faiths other ways.

TS. Have you been at the sherry already? Christmas has everything to do with Jesus... Christmas. You don't get more 'to do with it' than having your name in the title.

Nah. I mean maybe he started the trend, but Santa has been top Christmas dog for ages now. It should be called Santamas. And it's mainly about presents and eating meat.

Probably because now more people worship at the alter of material things and personal pleasure. It's a shame, because the church means so much more to a community than just attanding services. Happy CHRISTmas everyone.

Well even if you say it has been 'hijacked' we all know Christmas is now depicted as the birth of Christ, but people STILL are happy to roll along with it,never mind that it's something they don't believe in,

Although not religious myself I agree with every word of that. It is a lot more to people than just attending services and brings people together.

How many Brits play tennis? I'm guessing not many. Let's make it our business to close down all the courts because not enough people use them. We'd have the added bonus of not having to see Andy Murray's miserable mug on the tellybox.

Christmas is about a piss up for most people rather than the real meaning behind it

Beastie's right. Most people see Christmas as a party time, or a time to be with family. And no one's forcing anyone to join in the spiritual side of it... I'm not even a Christian and I love Christmas. But I don't think it's right to object to people celebrating the spiritual side, if that's what they feel. It's no one else's business.

People always say that, it's been hijacked. Like they know any more about the ancient religions which celebrated the winter solstice than they do about Christianity.
