TV dating show slammed for telling housemate her dad was gravely ill..
Quote:
A REALITY TV show has been slammed for telling a housemate her dad was gravely ill moments before announcing to her fellow contestants he had died live on air.
Turkish dating show Kismetse Olur (If Fortune Allows It Will Happen) came under fire accused of trying to boost ratings after the announcement was made to the house during live filming.
In the shocking scenes, Merve is handed an envelope revealing her dad is gravely ill
After Merve leaves, her housemates are seen reading the envelope and realising what has happened
In the shocking episode, another young woman was handed an envelope by producers to give to fellow contestant Merve Kovanci.
She handed it over and Merve, sitting on a sofa, opened the envelope and read the message inside.
Her face crumpled immediately and she made a beeline for the nearest exit to be with her dad.
Fellow housemates were left open-mouthed in the scenes which aired live and shocked the nation.
Merve’s father had reportedly been undergoing cancer treatment.
But while Merve had already left, the show has been slammed for the insensitive decision to announce her dad’s death on air
The young women are clearly emotional after hearing of the death of Merve’s dad, who had cancer
It comes just weeks after plans were revealed for a crazy new Russian reality show in which contestants will live in the wild and will be allowed to “fight, rape and murder” each other.
TV chiefs at the channel Kanal D have since been blasted by viewers for dealing with the incident in the heartless way in an apparent bid to boost ratings.
One critic said: “I am happy that I didn’t watch the show that uses death for ratings, shame on this program.
Another wrote: “Kanal D, what kind of animals are you, you use a girl’s grief for ratings?”
OnAyladimm said: “What kind of ethics is this, using grief for ratings? Shame on you.”
And guzelkadin87 wrote: “Is death news so inconsequential for you that you can give it by letter? Playing with the emotions for the sake of ratings is very embarrassing.”
Merve is yet to speak about the incident and is believed to be at home grieving with her family.
