There are more hyper-intelligent males than females, and there are also more males of significantly below average intelligence than females. Females tend to be more strongly clustered within a smaller standard deviation around average intelligence - with fewer "way out" on either side.

Of course, MOST men and MOST women are clustered around average intelligence and it doesn't mean that there aren't hyper-intelligent (and unintelligent) females.

Rather than say one sex is more intelligent than another, I would say that the sexes do think differently. Why else would most inventions be thought up by men?Maybe it's because women can and do think of several things at the same time (which is an art in itself) whereas men are more focused on one particular thing...just speculating.

I was going to type out my own reply but this one says all I want to say and I'm being lazy

A large part is cultural, because, until recently, the people with the best education and most of the money have been men.

Sexism kept women out of schools for a long time. It also kept pushing women into what were perceived to be more appropriate studies (nothing technical) when they were allowed into schools.

There is some evidence, there are differences between male and female human brains. Especially in spacial temporal reasoning regions and the language areas. As well as Wikipedia, in the book Cognitive Neuroscience: The Biology of The Mind[1], the authors state that human females are less good at the maths people are taught at school, which is linked to spacial reasoning.

However, this disparity is across the species as a whole. It is an average. Inventors, by their very nature, are not average. Thus the neurological differences are not the main contributing factor to why you see more men in your list than women.

Semi-anecdotal but it seems more or less impossible for it to be the case that male and female brains are not in some ways fundamentally different. Take autism as an example. The official stats are that it's at least a 4:1 ratio of males to females who have autism. Anecdotally, my daughter will be starting at specialist school unit within a local primary school and is so far the only girl in her year group (of 6) and will be one of only two girls in the entire unit (of 16).

The differences are too pronounced to be coincidence, basically. The only explanation is that there are some structural and chemical differences between male and female brains that have nothing to do with socialisation.
