Yeah, laws regarding the punishment for selling/misusing this drug would have to be changed too. But all of this should happen sooner rather than later.

There are clear links to those that smoke cannabis with mental health issues, like paranoia, it has side affects like any drug.
Also to the morons that say its better for you than cigarettes, you break a cigarette up to make a joint without a filter.

I suppose, although I'd weigh up the effect of that against the potential benefits it could have. They could at least trial it as an experiment I think to ascertain the impact of the abuses.

Yes that's true, I used to live with someone who smoked and he suffered from extreme paranoia and he became a nightmare, but there's a difference between recreational use and medicinal use.

Cannabis should be legalised for medicinal purposes, it's proven to help people who suffer MS and other conditions. It becomes dangerous when it gets into the hands of people who want to add chemicals to it. Arresting people in the possession of cannabis for personal use is just a waste of police resources and money in my opinion.

Agreed completely. I'm not terribly up to date in the affairs of Colorado and Washington - in fact I've only just realised it's now legalised in many many more states - but it doesn't appear to be causing wild frenzies of drugged up crime or panic.

Indeed. It probably will fall into the wrong hands but so do other prescription drugs like vallium etc Penalising those who need it isnt the solution though

It still doesn't make sense anyway, it's less potent and FAR less addictive than a lot of current prescription painkillers . A couple of 120mg Dihydrocodeines will knox ur sox off...

It's because it's got a stigma of being a recreational drug attached to it, no other reason imo

Its very close to becoming legal. Research recently identified one important cannabinoid in the cannabis plant called CBD. CBD alone has some fantastic healing effects and when used without the cannabinoid THC (which is psychoactive) medical cannabis will help sick people without making them high. It’s pointless as a recreational drug and will have little value outside the medical market.

The problem with the old style of medical cannabis was, it was manufactured in a laboratory but because the cannabinoid receptors in the brain will only accept and respond to natural cannabinoids, it was about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

I have to say that I am skeptical that this genuinely saved his life. Doctors do make errors and he probably wouldn't have died, cannabis or not.

Though I do think it should be legalized for medical use for a whole host of other reasons.

Well, they were practically reading my wife's grandmother her last rites 11 years ago and she's still alive today. And a co-worker of mine's husband has terminal cancer and has had "no more than 6 months to live" for nine years. At his last appointment they once again gave him "three to nine months". He's 76 now! He's going to end up dying of old age before his "terminal cancer" gets him...

The truth is, medical science isn't perfect and (little known) people can / do recover from minor cancers without any treatment at all. Young bodies especially can be remarkable and completely baffle doctors with sudden turnarounds with no identifiable cause.

Like I said though, I do still fully advocate the legalisation of cannabis for medical purposes. For many people at the very least, it can counteract a lot of the nausea caused by chemo. It's also a highly effective painkiller that has fewer side effects and is less addictive than opiates. Plus I've heard amazing things about it as a relaxant... I know an old chap who has some sort of issue with the muscles and tendons in his hand after a work injury and had suffered for years with the usual meds barely taking the edge off. He started smoking weed as a last resort and the pain relief was almost instant...

But people need to realise it is not a cure all.
Nephews m-i-l had MS, it took away some of the pain but she still died.
Sister and s-i-l both have cancer, both taken the oils, it improved slightly in both cases, but they are both still dying.
