Default Should University be free throughout the UK

Seems to be quite a big issue surrounding this election and is always brought up during election times
So do you believe that Universities should be free? And if so, who for? Everyone or only people who couldn't have afforded it

i voted yes to everyone because ideally i would rather not be paying to attend, of course

that being said i don't think the current deal is bad at all. only having to pay back once you earn over 21,000, and even then only 9% of everything you earn over that amount, is very minimal. i'm coming to the end of my first year of university and i don't worry about the loan at all.

and my family is poor af, they have no money at all. i am not privileged lol.

Nothing is free...
Just a question of moving the cost to someone else, who doesn't have the choice to pay it or not.

Yes, or at least significantly reduced. The debt is a disgrace for young people.

No. As those with degrees are likely to earn good money they should pay for their education.

But if they are earning more money they will pay more taxes. Isn't that how economic politics work?

What? Your post makes no sense. There is no drop in taxes, there's an increase in them for the top 5% of taxpayers, as well as a rise in corporation tax (that's still lower than many places in Europe and...shock horror...the US!). Have you actually bothered to read the manifesto and the costings booklet, or are you deriving your economic philosophy from Paul Dacre?

It should have always been free. The problem, should this happen, is for the generation trapped in debt for years who will never have a level playing field in life with those who come after.

Its a step in the right direction though. Those people signed a different contract. Maybe they'll be refunded eventually if the policy proves a success.

By people, I presume you mean those who have large businesses, corporations, or those that blindly follow anything these people say through their media outlets

Idk tbph.

There's arguments for both.
I think paying for uni may make people appreciate education more/not take it for granted which could reflect in results and give a better work ethic.

However i also don't like the idea of loading people with huge debt at the very beginning of their life.People should start life with a level playing field and make their own borrowing decisions. It also promotes a borrowing culture that can leave people bogged down with debt and stress for life.
