JK Rowling is right how many so-Called 'liberal' men resort to the same old sexist attacks when women displease then or challenge them. We have seen it on here on many occasions from those calling themselves feminists. Glad she challenged the creep. |

Intelligent woman and I am glad she challenged him on it. More women should do this - I don't care who he is or thinks he is.
Those type of sexist comments range from your dears, darlings and luvs to the type of word used by this creep - and they all amount to the same sexist put downs based on gender. Some who use sexist language will state that they say it to men too when challenged but if people use racist language but then try to claim they say it to whites too when challenged they would be slated by the Former. |

Its a theme on tibb and in the wider world sadly
someone thinks they are right, they think that the majority agree (so they wont be called out) and so they think its ok to say horrible things Witness if I started a thread saying "Piers Morgan says that dont for get that Corbyn still lost the election" for examble You would have 2 pages of personal insults and worse about Piers Morgan calling him allsorts. The hate would be palpable. Well done JK in this regard |

Funnily enough "dears, darlings and loves" I hear the most from women towards other people.
So, a comparison to the female oriented insults JK was referring to they are certainly not. |

She is right and it's something that needs to stop, especially online, where it's a major problem. It's obviously not an "about liberals" issue though, it's a bit of a stretch to turn it into that, people all across the political spectrum are guilty of this at times and as she points out, women from all ends of the political spectrum (and not involved in politics at all) are subjected to it (for example, and to keep on Harry Potter track, Emma Watson gets a LOT of this sort of sexist abuse in attempts to shut her down for Liberal views).
I do get though that there's a large element of hypocrisy in men who pretend to be highly Liberal / feminist themselves resorting to this sort of language... Almost like a mask slipping. Also I feel like it's worth making the point that sometimes, often even, it can be other women making these sorts of comments to each other. It's really not even confined to just being men. Needs to stop right across the board, anyway. Just... I guess... Try not to muddy the waters by making this about other issues. Not everything has to be a left/right battleground, Brillo. Not in themselves - it's all about context. They generally get wheeled out on here by male posters when challenged by female posters. Most can tell the difference.

Yes but they're not sex specific like slag, slut and the rest of it, which JK was making a point about.

The two main features of politics discussion on Twitter are
a) Issues get over-simplified and b) it frequently becomes about personalities with a lot of personal insults. |

Having looked into this a bit more I do have a couple of issues with Rowling here, too. For one... She is friends (on and off twitter) with a few men who use this sort of language all the time and she hasn't had anything to say about it until it was directed at Theresa May. JK has outed herself as a bit of a Tory mouthpiece a couple of times recently and it seems like this has all come out based on her feeling wound up over election results / going to war for May specifically. She's still not wrong in what she's saying BUT it's a bit of a shame that she hasn't been similarly "outraged" before now by the words of other men she considers friends? Also remembered that she included a specific "OMG swearz" moment in the final Harry Potter book... That had Bellatrix being called "a BITCH" as she was killed. that's the language of the patriarchy Ms Rowling. Or is it OK because it was Mrs Weasly and women are allowed to belittle each other with sexist insults. Hmm. |

Twitter really needs to update the character count max. It only exists that way so people could fit it in one text message. Nobody texts anymore, and I cant imagine anyone has ever texted in their tweet anyway. Does that feature still exist?
Anyway shes right in what she said about this one example. She lost me when she tried to box the behaviour with a certain group. Right/left men/women anyone in between, are all guilty. I'm sure it would take me 5 mins to find a right wing woman calling May a ***** for not doing a good enough job (if I understood how Twitter worked). It happens. I'm sure they don't literally mean that shes sexually promiscuous. Its just a generic insult nowadays.

She didn't box it with certain people. She was saying it's ridiculous especially when coming from self proclaimed "liberals" which it is. It's a weird irony when they come out with stuff like that.

Theresa May is a woeful prime minister and there's enough evidence and incidents of her incompetence to slate her without resulting to sexist comments.
She is a terrible PM because she is ill suited to the job, not because she's a woman. |
