Default Love Island SPIN-OFF 'Aftersun' BEATS Big Brother in ratings

Quote:
Big Brother 2017 is facing fresh ratings embarrassment after last night’s episode was beaten not just by Love Island, but the ITV2 show’s spin-off, Aftersun.

A last-minute schedule change saw Big Brother’s latest instalment moved to 10.00pm, after a major argument led to Lotan being removed from the house.

It was watched by an overnight average of 897,000 viewers (5,6%, including +1).

However, discussion show Love Island: Aftersun narrowly managed to top it, with 903,000 viewers (5.7%) at the same time.

The spin-off had a healthy lead-in from Love Island‘s main show, which achieved a series high of 1.61million viewers (7.6%) between 9pm and 10pm.

Big Brother’s overnight ratings have now been stuck below the million viewer mark for almost two weeks straight.

Even worse, the series average has also slipped to six figures, currently standing at just 929,000 viewers – 200,000 down on last year’s series at the same point.

However, the Channel 5 show is saving some face in consolidated or ‘official’ ratings, which account for 7 days worth of catch-up viewing.

After figures for the second week of the series were released today, the official series average is 1.39million – up 414,000 on the overnights.

That's like BOTS having more figures than the main show.

Yeah we know that, humiliating.

I'm not surprised, LI is everywhere, on TV, radio and all the papers, of course they'd be higher. The episode was a huge one and the aftermath show had the big cheating scandal pair on so it was always going to do well... the scandal has been everywhere in the media. I expected close to a million for the after show because of the hype around the news.

LI is KILLING the game, it's doing amazing. And I know BB is doing poor, but lets not downplay li's success by putting down BB. LI is doing amazing in it's own right. It has been beating all but BBC1/ITV. It's only been less than half a million from the main channel sometimes.

LI and BB have 2 different ways of working...

LI have well trained professionals that let their show flow and allow the public to choose and dont use that many twists or turns to try to manipulate the shows flow.

BB producers are a bunch of idiots, they employ tactics that constantly backfire and they give the viewing public the feeling like they dont care about the viewers, they are all about their own aims. In short people are turning off because its no longer BB it a manipulated poor mans geordie shore.

In the last few years, the show has changed so much, its lost its identity and untill it goes back to games, fun, no twists, no manipulation, no z lister wanabees and leave the show alone, it will die and its their own fault.

I can see someone buying it from ch5 and reverting it back to its original form and using live feed on the internet, and it will prove a big hit again.

C5 have a weak production with almost zero professionalism. It says a lot if this is how they work with their flagship program.

LI got 1.7m last night, series high and it was extended by 20 mins so clashed with BB... god help BB whatever it got, it will be tragic. Still not out yet, probably too low to even be released.

Love Island knows its audience and knows what kind of shout is, big brother has forgotten these things and is desperately trying to be like everyone one of its competitors.

Yep, and more importantly the channel actually shows it a modicum of respect (well, actually a whole heap). C5's disdain for civilian Big Brother has been long known but they've really taken the piss of late, and the total lack of any decent promotion has in part contributed to its recent demise. The most annoying thing about it is when CBB rolls around the promotion will step up tenfold, when it's the civilian series that needs it the most

ITV2 have invested in, nurtured and thrown the kitchen sink at this project and it's work. C5 could learn a lot of lessons, but won't

Me too, they did in 2011 IIRC but you see I'm worried that even Endemol don't care anymore. I mean it's largely them at fault for the state the production of the show is in, it's just that C5's mistreatment of it in terms of scheduling and promotion aren't helping matters. So I'm beginning to wonder whether Endemol might just concede defeat and try and secure a similar price for CBB alone

They really should be standing their ground a whole lot more though, ensuring that it's a package deal, that there's clauses which ensure the series length can't be cut to the bone, that eviction shows must remain at 9, more live feed, etc etc

I had Aftersun on in the background on Sunday night and honestly the amount of promotion I saw for LI in that one hour was more than C5 have given BB in six years. Not only do they have the little Love Island logo at the top of the screen throughout their programming, but they also have these idents of the Islanders that are shown at the start and end of each ad break. And on top of that, their teasers as well. Turn on ITV2 for about half an hour and you can tell that LI is their flagship programme.

I think the only time C5 has put that much effort into BB was during CBB15's promotion.
