Default Your relationship with your neighbours

Do your neighbours affect your life in any way?
Do you just know your neighbours enough to say hello to?
Do you gain any information from your neighbours or offer them any information?
Are you friends with your neighbours?
Or do you not converse with them in any way?You just live totally separate lives and don't converse in any way?

Do you just know your neighbours enough to say hello to? We will have a chat mainly if there is a issue like when we had some trouble with a a guy who was renting and who had parties 3 Saturday nights in a row that spilled out onto the street, neighbour power kicked in...no more regular parties

Do you gain any information from your neighbours or offer them any information? Yes usually about tradesmen or something like that

Are you friends with your neighbours? Not besties no

Or do you not converse with them in any way?You just live totally separate lives and don't converse in any way?
my immediate neighbour is an elderly Chinese lady who speaks no English but we wave at each other, my other neighbours we will chat to and when we go on holiday we look out for each other's properties and we got some delicious food during Ramadan

my next door neighbour is the local councillor and hes a prick. Cant stand them but they always ask me to pop their post thru etc when they go away and vice versa, 2 faced like but hey ho lol. The lady who lives opposite is canny and often knocks to talk rubbish about other neighbours lol. Then theres lovely Dereck who live in the next block, he knows everyone and puts everyones bins back in for them.

Well one side murdered my cat by purposely getting him to drink anti-freeze, while the other are quite snobby and hardly speak.

Our street is a weird & small shape with only 16 houses so i've always considered most of them to be neighbours, we pretty much get on with everyone except for one woman who drives everyone ****ing insane. We're really close with the family that live directly next to us though, have been for about 15 years. They're pretty much family to us, we spend most evenings/weekends together, go on holidays together and spend Christmas together.

We get along well with our neighbors and have a bit of a barter system going on. Our immediate neighbor does a lot of baking and is always turning up with tasty nibbles! Another works in the fish market and brings us all fresh fish on a regular basis. Steve has an engineering background and helps out with peoples engine problems and I have a larger than average oven so if someones entertaining, they often borrow my oven (we all live on boats).

Say alright and smile, and pray they don't start a conversation with me.

One's an old lady and the other is an old couple and I just don't have anything in common. Except for the old man who sometimes talks Rugby with me, but he's usual Brahms and Liszt and talks a lot of bollox.

I would say hello, maybe have a bit of chat but I'm not actually friends with any of them, I like my own space too much. I couldn't deal with people just popping in for a cuppa and stuff lol

Always had friendly neighbours.
One has ended up one of my best friends, we have moved three times and twice it was in the same road and now just up the road, 36 years and going strong.
We live in a little close of 7 houses now, know everybody by sight, names etc and a lot of family history..some very dark.
Known my other old neighbour 36 years as well, another of my best friends that we see regularly.
Been through sticky divorces, bad times and good with them both.

Interesting. So most people atleast speak to their neighbours.
Where i grew up i had loads of friends in my street and the street around the corner. We'd be constantly round each others houses or playing in the street.A bloke round the corner would fix my bike.As i got into adulthood i would speak to all the parents of the friends and argue with some too when i pissed them off. When i visit my parents i'm still friendly with their neighbours that are still there and chat with them and they talk to my kids.
When me and gf moved in together in a flat most of the neighbours were either nutters or just kept themselves to themselves so we never spoke to them at all.
When we bought a house together in a nice quiet street with mainly older people they're always round each others gaff and in each others business. One of them started putting our bin out and taking it in without asking us if we needed it.I thought 'sweet saves me a job'.My gf said it was weird. They also kept coming round for chats and stuff.
She was not used to it in the street she grew up in.Their neighbours never spoke at all.
Anyway we are in the chat over the fence category now.
I just wondered what the general trend was in today's busy society where we spend most of our time away from home.

Mostly just say hello and smile.

There was this one though where he was a complete bastard and he would play Music really loud until like midnight, and then he'd come knocking on our door complaining that we're being loud and make threats to us.

Honestly he was the worst neighbour that I think that I've ever had to put up with.

In someways I think poorer people and those well off have more in common than either do with those in the middle. As a kid, we moved from a council estate to a nice neighborhood, and in both places we were chummy with our neighbours, there were community events, etc. Now I live somewhere in the middle, where everyone keeps to themselves.

I have some quite unfriendly neighbours, we have had many neighbours in our 40 years of marriage and have always gotten on with them but where we live now the neighbourhood is quite unfriendly. So much so the wife of one of my immediate neighbours will rush into her house with her head down pretending she hasn't seen me rather than say hello, very odd. I've been known to purposely shout out loudly, HELLO so she has no choice as to answer back LOL. The husband is fine, its just her. The neighbour at the other side is just rude and never gives us the time of day but they don't bother us and we don't bother them so we can live with that. I do prefer friendly people as neighbours but we can't always have what we want in life eh. Nowt n' queer as folk as the saying goes.

When I was back in Tottenham, I knew and spoke to everyone around us really. Since I've moved to West London though then it's mostly just a smile or nod.

I get on well with my neighbors, and those before them, my former neighbours still drop me an email and let me know how the family is getting on. We do chat but don't really go round for coffee etc. Though one neighbour whose garden backs onto my property is not in my favourite people category just at the moment as she had a huge extension put on which kind of spoils the view and cut down all the trees that grew along our border which makes it feel less private. I'm still sulking over it a bit I guess. I hate when people cut down healthy trees.
