I'm SO nervous ladies. I didn't think I'd have to move in until like the 9th but I got an email earlier saying I move in on the 1st.
I'm excited but I'm also kind of ****ting myself, because: a) I don't know who any of my flat mates are yet and I've got no idea how I find out b) I still feel about 12 and this is too much pressure and responsibility c) I'm sharing a flat with all boys even though I ticked mixed gender on the form. FUMING. (Sorry #lads but statistically gals are more fun to be around) d) I don't have a job yet. My grant and loan and mam and dad are enough to cover the costs but I kind of feel like a scrounger, and it's so hard to get a job especially when you hardly have any experience like me! e) I don't know what I need to bring! I'm not trying to sound thick but like for example do I need to bring my own cutlery etc because I'm not sure if they provide it or not. I need all the help I can get so do of you chicks have any advice? It would me much apperciated x Last edited by Greg!; 29-08-2017 at 04:04 PM. |

Don't worry about not knowing who your flat mates are, you'll either like them or you won't so it doesn't matter!
Here's all the things you'll need to bring to halls. There's also loads of youtube videos out there too https://www.**********************/u...sity-checklist Good luck chick |

Just take it as it comes and don't panic. It truly is a rollercoaster of an experience, but if it's anything like mine—you'll have one of the best years of your life.
I think my main point of advice is not too overthink. Last edited by Braden; 29-08-2017 at 03:48 PM. |

Honestly out of all of them I'm more bothered about the idea of sharing with men surely you could ask to swap/PRAY a girl or two moves in?
I've not gone to uni so Riley and Riley's great advice should be followed instead of this, but my 2p is that, you're not the only person who in uni unemployed or struggling to find a job, plenty of people have been in your position, and I'm willing to bet most of your roommates will be in a similar position! Your parents will understand uni life and wouldn't offer to support you if they were unable to - besides, once you get your degree and a good job, you can treat them for the help they gave you Maybe I'm being ignorant, but I'm sure the pressure and responsibility worries will settle down once you've moved in. Surely this can't be the first time you've felt pressured? You managed to come through from that, so why can't you do it again? Besides, you'd probably feel the same if you were moving into a house or a flat alone for the first time anyway - and chances are you would be alone for that - you're not alone for this, and you're gonna learn so much in terms of life skills, and your worries will be laid to rest. I can guarantee you if I do go uni I'll be 100x worse than you are feeling right now so ignore me if I'm being overly optimistic, but in a months time you'll be loving uni - and if you're not, that's okay, uni's not for everyone! YouTube videos from people who survived uni (aka NOT me x) would be your best bet, best of luck! |

A) If you don't know anyone, they probably don't know anyone either! I remember finding 4 of my 6 flatmates on the Freshers page.. it was good to stalk them a bit, but thats all its good for, you can do that day 1 of Uni anyway, you're not missing out too much.
B) Hundreds you meet in the first week will feel the exact same! Stick with them C) They also put me in an all boys flat in freshers. Idk why, I didn't care too much anyway. Walking in and out of a few flats will become common. Your bessies probs wont be flatmates. coursemates, predrinkingmates, and societymates will more likely get that honour, and thats the same with everybody. I think you can ask to switch as soon as somebody bails on Uni and theres a free room available D) Get a job if ya want, wouldn't advise it personally. People who get jobs don't do as well academically.. suppose the same can be said for partying.. do what ya want, but dont stress it either way E) Clothes, cutlery, washingmachine stuff, toiletries.. most stuff can be bought when you're there though, and people are usually open to sharing. I have faith in you, Greg!

The first week is horrific so you will just have to get on with it. The only thing to remember is its the same for everyone else.
