Default May No Confidence

Do you think there is enough public confidence in May for her to carry on or will she be gone by Christmas? Let's have a poll!

give us a poll Jaxie, I literally don't know how she clung on after the election debacle and now the party conference, she has thick skin I will give her that, I would have slunk off by now

She looks like she has an amazing relationship with her hubby not sure why she just doesn't retire and enjoy retirement, neither of them are spring chickens

According to yesterdays uprising within her own party, I don't think her own party has a lot of confidence in her but who would take her place? I think she's going to stick this out and won't go anywhere without a vote of no confidence. I'd rather her than Cameron, the very clever salesman who conned everyone other than the elite.

In some respects, I feel sorry for her. She took on a heinous task and the chances are, she's going to go down in history as the weak and wobbly PM who brought the party into disrepute.

I feel a little sorry for her really as some of her downfall is just bad luck but her big mistake was overestimating her own popularity and calling the election.

I don't think she is coming across as strong enough leadership material and I think we need a brexiteer to lead brexit.

She will carry on until Brexit even though she should probably leave soon.

I feel sorry for her as well. I've worked in an environment where I've had to put a mask of professionalism on every time I walked into work and cried all the way home. If it hadn't been for a very patient and understanding husband, I couldn't have done that job. She has that in hundredfold and so she's a lot tougher than most of us could ever be.

I don't like her politics but that doesn't stop my human side relating to the enormous internal conflict she must be going through.

She should go immediately, but will stay there until after Brexit at least. Lets remember it is May, and May has **** ideas on most things.

I honestly think the Tories need some relatively unknown newbie to lead it if they want any chance of changing public opinion. All the main crowd are too well known for being a ****ing moron.

Apparently 30 Tory MPs want her to step down. I'm sure at any given moment there's at least 20-40 MPs who wish their respective party leader was someone else, so I'd say "who cares"

I dont think she overestimated it tbf, if the vote happened the day after she announced the snap, she would have got the landslide victory everyone expected. It was her parties, and her personal mistakes between then and now which has got her to this strange position.

I do feel sorry for her though, her life is a story of working hard to get to the job she always wanted, and then failing at it very publicly as soon as she gets there. Its not the happiest tale.

I don't think she was ever leadership material.
She was a really awful Home Secretary.

Her failure to connect in the general election, losing an already in place overall majority, losing at least a credible double figure lead in polls,to end up with just over being 2% ahead of Labour in the end.

This conference speech showed her failure to plan and prepare properly for a big occasion.
Really her arrogance in clinging on as PM is sad to watch as it reduces confidence in the office of Prime Minister.

Good heavens,Gordon Brown was a clear bumbling leader who dug holes for himself to fall in but this woman is digging her whole road up to more pitfalls.

The point is I would really believe no other leading Cabinet Minister wants the leadership with brexit proving so difficult.
They also fear any other election too which would I think, see Labour in and the Cons out.
The better thing as to that too would be seeing off the DUP from any 'key' role with UK govt.

Personally I have never liked Theresa May,as an MP,as Home Secretary and to me she's a hopeless PM.

i think its interesting that the Tories won the election, and don't think May is good enough and want her replaced and yet Labour lost the election and Corbyn is the best thing since sliced bread (at least in the world according to Jeremy Corbyn ) Its all about expectations, not about competence or anything else.

I don't particularly like May, never have, but she has been on borrowed time since the election and she will not be around to fight another one.

Everyone goes on about how crucial a time it is in the run up to us leaving the EU, but that's utter nonsense. Britain's future outside of the EU will be shaped over the decades to come, not in a few months of negotiation now. That is nothing more than a starting point.

If the next election is 4 years off, I don't see May or Corbyn at the helm of their parties. People forget that Corbyn will be well into his 70's and approaching 80 if he were to serve as PM. I don't think that's at all viable to the electorate.

She’s made some bad decisions by calling the election,She led an utterly terrible campaign and has had some bad luck.I think it’s time to go before she damages her legacy anymore and loses more voters.

It's not just bad luck, bad decisions or bad timing... take absolutely everything else out of the equation - Brexit, etc. - even the fact that she's a Tory and I'd never support a Tory... just look at her objectively as a politician.

- She is a weak leader who can't keep her party in check

- She doesn't command the respect of her fellow politicians

- She has zero charisma

- She is an awful public speaker. Truly awful.

- She flips allegiances for her own interest; completely fickle. She was pro-Union and started championing Brexit the second she got a sniff at being PM. She insisted there would be no snap election and then held one as soon as someone told her the "iron was hot".

- She isn't very astute and constantly misjudges the mood of the public, and of other politicians both here and internationally.

She is objectively just not anything even resembling strong leadership. She should go as soon as possible. However, she won't.

I suspect that the Tories will want to keep her around as a scapegoat for when Brexit inevitably goes to ****. They'll get her to resign after we've left and they build up someone else to take the throne. I imagine Mogg was probably one of their first choices to do so but the whole anti-women's rights and homophobia have probably sunk his chances, thank god.

This, and most people think that Grant Shapps (the ringleader) is exaggerating even those small numbers of MPs who are apparently against her.

No one is that big a fan of May let's be honest but there's still no appetite for a leadership contest right now and no obvious contender that has that much support among MPs

Yeah I don’t think there’s any way he’ll get the 48 signatures required to trigger a leadership contest because as you say nobody wants it and who would put themselves in the running.

It would also be an absolute farce...

- Election, Cameron as leader

- Brexit, Cameron heads for the hills

- May takes over

- People aren't really all that pleased about having a PM that was nothing to do with the election

- Snap election, partially to legitimize May in the public eye as PM

- May loses majority but is still forms legitimate government, with a PM who was "voted for".

And now what? They're going to replace her with someone else again? Will there be Snap Election Round 2?

So stable leadership, such strong.

She has enemies, they will do their best to weaken her, and try to topple her.
George Osborne heading other disgruntled ex cabinet ministers that she sacked. It goes with the territory.
No denying she had an absolute awful campaign in the election, yet she gained votes in spite of losing seats.
I reckon a few who would vote against her are worried that if she goes it could bring on another election and they will be out of a job. Probably what will save her for now.

I really do think shes been told to stay. I can't imagine shes staying out of arrogance or anything, though I do think the election was called in arrogance (both from her, and from the party thinking they would easily obliterate labour). I think she knows shes a bit of a joke now, and I do feel sorry for her, but noone will actually want to take the poisoned chalice. as such, I think shes there as just the face of the party for now, and will be gone as soon as the Brexit thing is pretty much sorted out. That way she can always get the backlash for it, but the person who takes over can wipe their hands of it and always be like...\I would have done it better but didnt have the option' and stuff.
