Default Defence Secretary Michael Fallon resigns

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-41838682

Quote:
Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon has resigned following allegations of past behaviour.

He said his behaviour may have "fallen short" of the standards expected by the UK military and said it was right that Parliament was now taking this issue seriously.

The BBC understands his decision was not related to new or specific claims.

The PM said she appreciated the "serious manner" in which Sir Michael had considered his role.

Theresa May said she also appreciated the "particular example you wish to set servicemen and women and others".

In his resignation letter, Sir Michael said: "A number of allegations have surfaced about MPs in recent days, including some about my previous conduct.

"Many of these have been false but I accept that in the past I have fallen below the high standards that we require of the Armed Forces that I have the honour to represent."

He added that it had been a "privilege" to have been defence secretary over the past three and a half years.

Well I'm surprised fully expected all those implicated to squirm out of any accusation of impropriety.

This is good and I feel like an election might be coming seeing as these allegations are bound to affect many Tory and Labour MP's who might resign / be sacked.

Whatever else comes from this,he has opened the door to other resignations too.

His,what is known to be alleged, were maybe inappropriate but rather weak issues on the surface.
Yet he has felt the need to resign.

I think across parliament and parties, there may be some fairly anxious individuals.

Yes, rather large can of worms has been opened.
Anything could happen next. Interesting.

Madness that a good government minister feels compelled to resign over an incredibly minor incident 15 years ago

The fact he's resigned makes me think there's more than a "minor" incident in his past he'd rather not wait to come out. So he's scurrying away at the first warning sign.

That's what I thought initially but then the article says that "the BBC understands his decision was not related to new or specific claims" so it doesn't look like it
