Default Terror Attack hero Chris Paker stole from dying victims

Quote:
A homeless man who stole a purse and a phone from victims of the Manchester Arena attack has admitted theft.

Chris Parker, 33, was initially dubbed a hero after claiming he comforted a seriously injured girl.

CCTV footage played to Manchester Crown Court showed him wandering between stricken victims.

He kept returning to injured Pauline Healey, whose granddaughter lay dying nearby, before leaning over her and taking her handbag to steal her purse.

Within hours of taking the purse, he was using Mrs Healey's bank card at a local fast food restaurant.

CCTV footage played to the court showed Parker kneeling over bodies and rifling through bags in the devastating aftermath of the May 22 atrocity that killed 22 people.

Parker had claimed he cradled a dying woman in his arms after the blast and received more than £50,000 from well-wishers for his apparently selfless actions.

But shockingly, it later emerged Parker:

Stole a debit card, purse and phone from injured gran Pauline as winced in pain on floor with 15 shrapnel wounds
Swiped an iPhone 6 from an injured teenage victim before taking snaps of dead bodies
Rifled through the pockets and bags of dying and injured victims in the foyer
Then brazenly spent the stolen cash in McDonald's just hours after the attack
Hailed a hero after claiming to media he had cradled bloodied and dying victims
Now faces jail after his web of lies unravelled and the shocking truth emerged

Ugh. I get that people can be desperate but really, can you get lower? We once had an old guy collapse outside the shop... two young guys bent down to "help" him, even started helping him up, then grabbed his wallet out of his inside pocket and literally dropped him back on the concrete. In that case, another couple of local guys chased after them and they dropped the wallet but unfortunately, weren't physically caught.

Ouch. I remember him being hailed a hero...and yet he was just trying to steal from the victims?!

Trash! I know it’s horrible but most homeless people would steal lie and kill for things! Watched a documentary about it. They’re on the streets for a reason. Commiting crime!

Well no to be fair it is usually the other way around; if you're on the streets then you're desperate enough to turn to crime. I try not to judge desperate people for (non-violent) theft in the majority of cases... but stealing from someone who is lying injured or dying is a step beyond petty theft.

That a massive generalisation, making out the only reason they can be homeless is for stealing?

What a sad disheartening story, that he would steal from hurt and dying people. I read another story recently about someone who left their car window with belongings inside and a homeless man stood guard over it so no one stole it. There is good and bad in all walks of life.

Well yes. I imagine being on the streets would make most people turn to crime as there is not really any other way to survive! Not sure I could bring myself to steal from dying/very injured people like, but I cannot say for sure unless I had been in that position. I know if I was desperate enough I would turn to shoplifting and such though

I wonder how he was found out? Were they just reviewing the footage and saw it...but surely they would have looked at cctv footage before now? Either way, the way he was hailed a hero and had 50k raised for him...without anyone knowing the full story is ridiculous

whether you are homeless or not, it doesn't excuse that abhorrent behaviour. Glad they clocked him. What is even more sickening, is that as a result of having committed this act, he will get a nice warm home for the winter

Surely he has a house now anyway, with the 50k that was raised for him I wonder if he will have to pay that back...I wouldn't think so but maybe he will

No like TS said most of them commit crime because they have to ie turn to crime which doesn’t make it right but a lot of homeless people murder and steal.

In cases where someone has duped people with a gofundme I think it's sadly very rare for refunds to be enforced because they were arguably the donors' own responsibility... I myself have donated to someone in the past who turned out to be fraudulent and they just disappeared from the face of the earth. I guess some would say that's a lesson in trust and being sensible with money but it's rather disheartening to be told "be less charitable". Or at least more careful with where you place it.

He used a ladies visa while she was in hospital and was on CCTV taking her bag.
