Of Course by midnight tonight
Every trading company with 250 employees
must declare all earnings.

Its a complex issue
Some Woman work Harder than men
but the Men Earn more.

But on a Checkout in any Supermarket
Is Nothing like lifting Heavy Boxes out back
So Some Women have that Very Wrong.

Then I guess we'd better force women to start picking up different working habits!

Heh if thats about tesco and the current hooha..seems to be the opposite way among people I know. Men who work the checkouts are putting in complaints and such to get the same wages as the warehouse staff. But its mainly women in the warehouses.

Of course warehouse is harder work. But this has gone on for ages and ages now. My dad used to work in a prison in the IT bit and like 15 years or so ago, all the office staff got a HUGE backpay as it had been decided that their work was just as important as the guards and such. Which tbf, IS kind of true. But it ignores the fact that the guards job is more physical and there is a lot of risk involved in their roles. My dad got like 20k or something backpaid.

I can kind of udnerstand the 'its just as important' thing. But I do think other things need to be taken into account too when determining wages.

But I am glad that peoples wages are going UP, rather than others being lowered to bring them to the same level.

It is complex and reducing it down to data like this doesn't take into account experience, age, type of job, type of contract etc. Kate Andrews has been speaking a load of sense about this in the last few days, would recommend reading some of her stuff

“For Every £1 a man earns, A woman Earns 88pence : Ch4HDNews”

Really?Honestly?

For the same role and same hours worked?

That is surely illegal and obviously companies should be punished if this is really the case.

Anyone who pretends to believe this are being intellectually dishonest. The differences in pay are obviously down to different working habits, and I have no idea why people keep claiming otherwise.

Yeah,
The clue’s in the name ‘wo-man’ or ‘womb-man’.Females in most of the animal kingdom are generally the nurturing, maternal ones of the species(obvs with exceptions to the rule) and humans aren’t that much more special really.
Unfortunately biology is a thing.

Trying to fight billions of years of evolution isn’t an easy task and would probably take another few million years.
One of the main things that differentiates males and females is the females maternal nurturing instincts.
Yeah men love their kids more than anything else but they(generally) don’t have that primal instinct to want to spend all their day looking after the little beggers.

At the end of the day while freedom of choice and biology exist more women overall will choose to spend the time with the kids and less time forging a career. It’s in their nature.
Measuring mens and womens pay over a lifetime or as a whole in an organisation is meaningless unless you compare like for like rate in one particular role which hopefully those inequalities are minimal or non existent i would agree.

Honestly so long as freedom of choice exists and we ensure that employers are GENUINELY not being discriminatory, the rest simply shouldn't matter at all. The "pay argument" really irks me, but I guess it's inevitable in the society we live in. It places "how much you earn" as being of prime importance, when really the only important thing is that people are free and able to do what they actually want to do without discrimination. And it's obviously a problem if anyone is genuinely being paid less for doing exactly the same job, for arbitrary reasons, but I'm far from convinced there.

I mean... I get paid less than some people who have the exact same job as me - in fact I would argue, have a far easier job (reading books and drinking cups of tea managing backwater shops while I slog my guts out in a busy one ) but the reason for it is that I've been a manager for approx 5 years whereas some of the old guard have been there for 30+ years, and their salaries reflect contracts that existed before I was even born . It IS annoying but it is what it is, and it has nothing to do with sexism.

Also on the flipside, I still get paid 1.5x on any overtime that takes me over 45 hrs / week, and I get 6 weeks paid holiday. Anyone starting my exact role now gets 5 weeks and no increased rate overtime at all.

Basically a race to the bottom over time that affects everyone .

Men on average do get paid more than women for the same job.

To me if men and women are both doing the same grunt work then they should be paid the same, I don't get how businesses find it so hard to do this?

They really don't. Apart from cases where the man in question works more hours or has more experience than the woman.

I suppose that is the difference between the two of them.

It's hard to find a solution though because men and women should be paid more equally imo.

The solution is for women to work the same jobs and the same amount of hours.

But then if the woman is a Mother that means it's less time for the child or children to spend with their Mother.

Unless you think businesses should have a "man rate", and then a higher "woman rate" ?

It would be hard to implement, but I do wonder if there's a way for the Government to ensure that men and women that have children can have allocated days of the week where they work less hours than they normally would so that they could spend time with their children, so that the wages equal out a little bit better between men and women.

Tbh my idea sucks, but it's the best idea that I've got to try and equal out the money earned between men and women.
