Default Ant-Man and the Wasp (out August 3)

The first one was pretty fun, and I've completely and irreparably lost track of the main Avengers franchise, so I'm looking forward to this.

I wasn't keen on the first one (aside from the last act, which I loved) but this one looks really good.

If you wanna keep up with what's going on in Avengers, you need to watch The Guardians of the Galaxy films, Captain America 2 & 3, the previous Avengers (obvi) and Thor Ragnarok. I'd say those are the only vital films needed to understand what's going on leading into Infinity War.

I loved the first one, I was expecting it to be really bad so was very pleasantly surprised

Evangeline Lily regretted sticking two fingers up at a movie career and came crawling back, huh?

I've seen both GOTG and Age of Ultron, but none of the Americas or Thors not even the first ones you haven't mentioned.

I personally would say Avengers 1 and 2, Guardians 1, Civil War and Ragnarok for the basics. Guardians 2 and Spider-Man Homecoming for character attachment reasons.

Winter Soldier I don't think is 100% necessary for Infinity War. Though on the other hand, it is kind of needed to follow Civil War so... .

Someone told me Black Panther was essential so I watched a cruddy Cam copy , and it wasn't essential AT ALL, the only elements of it you need to know about (i.e. the basics of what Wakanda is all about) are covered in Civil War.

My question about Ant Man 2 is [Infinity War spoiler]..

Spoiler:

When is it set?? It surely has to be before, or parallel to, the events of Infinity War part 1? Since we can assume part 2 picks up directly after part 1 when it's released next year, and the only other Marvel film on the schedule is Captain Marvel which is set in the 90's (and I would assume ends / credit sequence ends with the message from Nick Fury, leading directly into Infinity War 2).

I read a theory that Ant Man 2 runs in parallel and will have a post credits scene with one or both of them disintegrating... which could be interesting. Although confusing for anyone who hasn't followed Infinity War and is watching Ant Man as a standalone film

You don't really need to see the first Cap film if you've watched Avengers since you'll get the drift of who he is and the first one is just an origin story anyway, I'd definitely watch the Captain America sequels since they are good films in themselves. The first two Thor films are pretty meh so I wouldn't bother with them but Ragnarok is excellent (although it might be confusing if you haven't watched the first two but that's what Wikipedia's for, sis!)

I suppose you could say Dr. Strange is another important film but really, the only thing you need to know about him going into Infinity War is that he's a wizard and he has an Infinity Stone.

You can get the general idea of Dr Strange from Ragnarok tbh... and he pretty much explains the time stone in Infinity War itself. I also don't really think either of the first two Thor films are required going into Ragnarok... if anything they soft-reboot the character anyway, and you get the basics of who he is from Avengers.

I saw Strange for some reason (I say some reason: the reason was Tilda Mother****ing Swinton ) but yeah I assumed he'd have a small part in Infinity War.

Yeah that's a good list tbh.

Spoiler:

I assume it's set just before Infinity War. Ant-Man or the Wasp won't fade away because they're both in Avengers 4, there's been pictures leaked (at the time it wasn't known which film it was for) which feature Ant-Man and current day Iron Man speaking to Cap in one of his old costumes so the common theory is that Avengers 4 is going to be heavily time travel based which makes sense given Doctor Strange's decision to hand that stone over in Infinity War.

A big theory is that Avengers 4 is going to take place 5 years later which I hope isn't true since that would suggest that basically EVERYTHING will end up being reset and I want long reaching consequences godamnit!

Yeah, back when Lost was huge she spoke about all of the offers she turned down because she "didn't want to be a Hollywood actress". She always says she "could've been the next Angelina Jolie, but I didn't want to". She comes across kind of pretentious in a lot of interviews.

Then when Lost ended, she said she was quitting acting. But then ever since it's ended she's done a lot of genre movies.

He actually has a medium-sized role I would say, it's just that "who he is" is established well enough in his brief scenes in Ragnarok (as he tells Thor the basics of what they're all about) and then the Infinity War role is quite self contained, doesn't reference anything from the Dr Strange movie.

The only ones they refer back to much are Civil War, Guardians and the previous Avengers films, really. Though I still say that Spider-Man Homecoming is important for Spider-Man / Iron Man.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is released in the UK on August 3rd to avoiding clashing with the World Cup.

All the recent MCU hype made me want to start watching them - I'd only seen the first Avengers before. Only a few of them are on Netflix but I watched Guardians of the Galaxy the other night, which I thought was pretty good. Will try the second Captain America next (first one isn't on it).

In for such a treat I'm legitimately jealous... Winter Soldier is brilliant and I'd love to see it for the first time again .

You can go back and watch "The First Avenger" later to be honest. I wasn't actually a big fan of it when it first came out... but after seeing modern day Cap in Avengers / Winter Soldier I rewatched it and really enjoyed it . I think it works better as a "Back story flashback" after you know the character, rather than an introductory origin story.

I just watched this one. Pretty good fun, but the first Ant-Man was probably better. In the sequel the story zips around a bit much, and there is quite long sections of explaining things - a lot of techno-babble gobbledegook I don't think I got. But the humour is good and there is a few laugh out loud moments.

My MCU top 3, having now watched nearly all of them is 1. Spider-man: Homecoming, 2. Civil War, 3. Infinity War.

But the best Captain America film is Winter Soldier so this has to be fake news

I love them both and they're both in my top 5 MCU so it's hard for me to choose which one is better.
