Default Jeremy Corbyn branded 'anti-Semite' by Labour MP

By his own people this time....

The Labour leader is told he's an "anti-Semite" and "racist" by a Jewish MP amid a row over the party's anti-Semitism definition.

Dame Margaret told Mr Corbyn he is an "anti-Semite and a racist", adding: "You have proved you don't want people like me in the party".

The row flared after Labour's ruling body approved on Tuesday the adoption of a new code of conduct on anti-Semitism, despite calls for it to be toughened.

Earlier this week, 68 of the UK's senior rabbis penned a joint letter in which they accused the Labour leadership of acting in "the most insulting and arrogant way" by rewriting an internationally-adopted definition of anti-Semitism.

The group called on Labour to adopt the unamended International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of anti-Semitism, including all its examples, in their new code of conduct.

Labour MPs and peers also overwhelmingly backed the demands for the party to change the way it defines anti-Semitism at a meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party on Monday.

However, Labour's National Executive Committee upheld the adoption of the code of conduct on Tuesday.

https://news.sky.com/story/jeremy-co...clash-11440244

But, it omits four examples from the IHRA list:

:: Accusing Jewish people of being more loyal to Israel than their home country;

:: Claiming that Israel's existence as a state is a racist endeavour;

:: Requiring higher standards of behaviour from Israel than other nations;

:: Comparing contemporary Israeli policies to those of the Nazis.

Friends of Hodge denied reports she swore at the Labour leader, but acknowledged she had called him “an anti-Semitic racist”.

They added that when Corbyn protested, she replied: “It is not what you say but what you do, and by your actions you have shown you are an anti-Semitic racist.”

One Labour MP said: “She went to him and he just stood there and took it. She was furious.”

This will never be addressed while people scrabble round to excuse him. Or until they come up with a story about the Tories to deflect it.

Corbyn clearly doesn’t believe in actions speaking louder than words. Stupid man.

Labour MP Margaret Hodge faces "action" by the party after reportedly swearing at Jeremy Corbyn and calling him an "anti-Semite".

A spokesman for the Labour leader said what had happened was "clearly unacceptable between colleagues".

The alleged confrontation came after Labour adopted new guidelines on anti-Semitism, which were criticised by some Jewish leaders and some MPs.

She has insisted today that she never swore at him.

Maybe they need to pad out her "offenses" so she can be removed?

So when a Jewish MP raises her feelings about anti-Semitism in the party the response is to take action against her. Not the best look, Labour are lucky that the Brexit chaos will distract from all this

I don't think of any of these politicians as "heroes". I think by design most wouldn't hesistate to throw their own base under the bus if it really suited them... just the nature of that field. Sometimes they do happen to actually do their job, so that's nice... but we're living in this weird era where we like to romanticize everything about politics. It's just so overblown... they're people with elected job titles for me... not really anything "special"... if they have good ideas, I will vote for them. Sometimes I don't agree with who I vote for all that much, but they have shown a record of actually getting being decent at their job and listening to their constituents and help with the larger agendas of the city (for example)... one guy may say great things, have great ideas, but in execution be terrible at the job.. so it's a waste of a vote for me.

This follows Labour MP John Woodcock who was suspended over a sexual harassment allegation and has quit the party and launched a scathing attack on Jeremy Corbyn.

He claimed the party had changed for the worse and said the Labour leader would be a "clear risk to UK national security as prime minister".

"The party for which I have campaigned since I was a boy is no longer the broad church it has always historically been."

"Anti-Semitism is being tolerated and Labour has been taken over at nearly every level by the hard left, far beyond the dominance they achieved at the height of 1980s militancy."

"There is little chance of returning the Labour party to the inclusive, mainstream electoral force my constituents desperately need."

"I have promised to fight for local jobs, promote a credible alternative government, protect the shipyard and ensure the safety of my constituents through strong defence and national security.

I now believe more strongly than ever that you have made the Labour Party unfit to deliver those promises and would pose a clear risk to UK national security as prime minister."

Whatever troubles afflict the Tories the Labour party cannot capitalise - not with loser Corbyn at the helm.

Labour could make some of this go away by just accepting the international definition of anti-semitism that the rest of the world recognises.

Why are they resisting it?

It seems as though Corbyn is pandering to the anti-semitic contingent among the membership.Maybe scared of losing votes?

The allegations against Woodcock are just that. Corbyn on the other hand has a long, long history of anti Semitic behaviours. Unless Woodcock has the same history as Corbyn it is not the same.

Update on this.

Seems they were trying to silence her (massive change from usual eh) so shes posted this all over twitter. I think I like her, tbh. Seems not the kind to give into bullies. Which Labour/Momentum appear to be, moreso everyday tbh

Edit. Seems even more updates...Apparently Labour are trying to say she apologized https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45085682 Dropped.

I genuinely don't see what he's done that is anti-semitic, it seems like bandwagon-jumping and right-wing opportunism to me.

I'm not a Corbynista by any means, I'm more of a social democrat, but I've seen Corbyn supporters branded as 'enablers of antisemitism' and complicit etc. and it just pisses me off tbh

The mass public groupthink at the moment (deliberately crafted) is that if anyone is philosophically against the idea of Israel as a state, or in fact, even has criticisms of how Israel / the Israeli military operates, they are now an "anti-semite" who "hates Jews". This presumably even applies to the many, many Jewish people internationally who are critical of Zionism / Israel. They just hate Jews, too.

It's a common shut-down tactic to be fair; much like the claim that anyone who has criticisms of the UK political system or anything to do with UK culture "just hates Britain". That one flies around on here semi-regularly.

Yeah I absolutely think it's a way to shut down criticism of Israel as a political entity. I'm not an "anti-zionist" in a sense that I don't believe in an Israeli state - I think they have the right to exist - but many actions are against human rights and are unacceptable to me.

I'm not Jewish. & I read my news from a bunch of different sources - The Independent, Guardian, Twitter, occasionally Telegraph, BBC, Sky etc. I'm aware of the biases in some of these, but I think enough of it is impartial to generate an opinion.

What is your point?
