Default Why do credit card companies increase your credit limit

...when you're not even fully using the credit they've given you??

For example, I had a credit card that had a limit of £2,500. I only used at the most maybe up to £300, and then I'd pay it all back when it was due.

The credit card company sent me a letter and said they were really happy with how I was managing my credit card and that they planned to increase my credit limit further.

WHY? When I wasn't using the £2,500.

To encourage you to spend more unfortunately, they tend to do this before an event so if you have a birthday coming up or Christmas in comes the increase, unfortunately not everyone can ignore and spend up and end up paying back for years on end

Haha, thanks. They're not gonna make me spend more.

I've never asked for a rise but they keep giving them. And I keep paying my bill up every month so I don't have to pay interest. I bet they hate me.

I'm not mean. I'm just careful.

Same

When I first got my credit card I specifically said I wanted a low credit limit and it was was originally £4000 but now it’s up to £7000

Same here.
But we pay it off every month, so they probably want us to use it for more stuff, then they get the 5% or whatever on all goods purchased.

Like the old days when the banks used to throw credit at people and look what happened there.

Back to their old ways.
