Default Safety fears

Man has been put into a woman’s refuge as he identifies as woman.
He has a conviction for abuse.
Can someone put a link up please, it’s in a national newspaper

2 points i would like to make:

1. It is important that woman are allowed the freedom to be able to highlight issues such as these without being condemed. Woman are entitled to a safe space

2. Its important that as many incidents as possible are reported so that they can be investigated, and we can get a true picture of the size of the problem, if indeed there is a problem

The safety of vulnerable people is paramount and supersedes any other needs,

Womens refuges should be and always have been a place of safety from abusive men ,and in goes Melissa who tried to kill the mother of his child ,where's the sense in that ?

All I really have to add to this thread, I suppose, is that the issue (as always) is going to come down to nuance vs extremism and that yes - obviously - refuges should be safe... but that the answer is having sensible measures and checks in place to ensure that they are safe places. It shouldn't come down to "Let everyone in!" vs "No transwomen ever!" as it often does. "Baby out with the bathwater" is the phrase that springs to mind. Also, MtF transwomen who are clearly not presenting as female should be under very close scrutiny BUT I don't think there should be a surgical requirement, as surgery carries inherent risks and I also think we're on a slippery slope if we start saying "you MUST have surgical alterations to be officially trans".

When a man has surgery to change his sex to a woman, then I will have no problem with her at all. Until then... there should be no penises in women-only spaces... not ever.

It appears the managers are putting PC before safety

One St Mungo's source claimed Addis had caused 'alarm and distress' to female residents at the women's shelter by behaving aggressively in front of them.

But managers at the charity are accused of ignoring concerns from staff because they 'slavishly' followed a politically correct agenda promoting transgender rights.

See, this is what I mean, though... as soon as there was aggressive behaviour that person should have been removed. That should apply regardless... if there are women there being aggressive THEY should be removed, too, so the transgender aspect surely becomes totally irrelevant as soon as that happens? All it takes is a rule that says "this is a calm, safe refuge: if you behave aggressively you can't be here" and... that's that?

Well I would agree with that, and I reckon if it was a woman born a woman acting this way she would be, but people are so fearful of being labelled transphobic and losing their jobs and because there are no proper guidelines in place to address any problem that might arise, staff are putting the safety of other residents at risk, Im pretty sure we all know the majority of the trans community just like any other community are peaceful and lawful and just want to get on with their lifes, but they are being let down by people who want to whitewash any discussion about how to deal with those that are not

I still cannot understand why Addis needed to be in a woman hostel, esp after reading this ???

A whistleblower told the MoS that the Stonewall Housing Association, which helps to house homeless lesbian, gay and transgender people, referred Addis to St Mungo's after he became homeless following his release from prison.

He was living in a hostel called the LGBTQ Project for trans, lesbian and gay people run by the same charity when he began to identify as a woman

Well yes, I agree but I guess that's where I think one extreme promotes the other. Perhaps transpeople get special treatment, which generates resentment, which they then feel and there's a backlash against that resentment, and people become fearful of the backlash etc etc. but that ends up leading to this idea that there needs to be a policy of "Absolutely NO" to transwomen accessing safe spaces for females; with the inevitable result of THAT being that transwomen at genuine risk have nowhere to go (and sadly, incidences of abuse for transwomen are relatively high). There's always this "all or nothing" idea from all sides that completely destroys any sort of reasonable progress or policy.
