Yes "Mordaunt becomes first ever female defence secretary" "18:25 Rory Stewart named as new international development secretary He will leave the justice department, where he served as a junior minister." https://news.sky.com/story/live-defe...uawei-11708815 Last edited by arista; 01-05-2019 at 05:34 PM. |

Over the moon am I to see this arrogant guy gone from a major role.
Actually good luck to Penny Mordaunt, Defence is becoming like a poisoned chalice I am however overjoyed to see Rory Stewart promoted too. He I have great respect for. |

I've got to say I thought he was a really good defence secretary, someone prepared to back the armed forces. And I've got to say, what the flock are we doing having Huawei build part of our 5G network? Australia, Japan, Canada [probably], New Zealand and the USA have all banned their products on security grounds. Anyhoo, he says he categorically did not leak information so... who knows.

I like Rory Stewart but as prisons minister he said he'd quit if he hadn't brought down violence levels within a year now he gets a new job just before that year is up which is awfully convenient for him lol
As for Williamson the guy is a tool, at best he's incompetent and at worse he's deliberately undermined national security to further his own leadership ambitions.. |

Rory has presided over a reduction in violence levels.
I don't think I'd have expected him to honour his pledge to resign. Good grief people admire Farage, doing a seemingly endless hokey cokey of going and coming back. I'm just both really glad and surprised that Theresa May has recognised the talents of Rory Stewart and promoted him. He's just been on Peston, talking reason and sense again. It would have been madness to lose his talents for a pledge he has began to deliver anyway. I congratulate both Penny Mordaunt and Rory Stewart on their promotions. Two good appointments at last from Theresa May. Last edited by joeysteele; 01-05-2019 at 10:18 PM. |

Yeah saw him on there saying there has been a reduction in violence where he was focusing his efforts so fair play, hadn't heard about that before
I do think he is one of the most sensible and level headed ministers we have, sadly he'd never get within a sniff of leadership though |

I'm confused... Isn't Penny Mordaunt the new Defence sec?
Theresa May.... she's losing her mind I think. I really hope Scotland Yard investigate this spurious claim... an unsubstantiated claim that has ended his career. Last edited by Livia; 02-05-2019 at 09:23 AM. |

I don't care for him on all I've seen of him. However this cannot be closed if he insists he is innocent. I agree with you, he needs to have the right investigation to clear his name, if he's done nothing wrong. It seems another mess from a possibly wrong and biased led investigation initially. |

He is a strange man but if Theresa May has as she says compelling evidence.
It seems even he hasn't been shown it or told it. He states he is sure a police investigation would clear him. In light of his denial and her refusal to reveal said compelling evidence. This cannot as she dictates be a closed matter. That's a disgrace. If he has not been responsible for this leak, then he has to have all roads open to him as to justice. |

well, it is the end of the matter, he has been fired because May has lost confidence in him. She can hire and fire her cabinet as she sees fit without providing explanations. If he were facing a criminal prosecution it would have been different, evidence would need to be provided, but he is not ... so that's basically the end of it.

There's a massive difference in someone being sacked for loss of trust in their ability. To accusing them of something they say they haven't done. Then inferring they are a liar when they claim they are innocent. This is a PM not a dictator. He would welcome a police investigation, others across party lines are asking for it. She doesn't welcome it. Now why is that?? If as she claims she has compelling evidence against him. That's a massive difference to just sacking someone you've no confidence in now. I think you and the PM will learn, this is more likely to be the start of problems on this not the end if it at all. He isn't a guy who will allow his integrity and career to be destroyed without a fight from him if he really is innocent. Nor should he allow it to be destroyed either. |
