Default Rise of the Nazi's

Interesting series started on BBC last night, about the rise of the Nazi's into power and how a democracy can move into authoritarianism within a short period of time.

It's a topic for debate as well as to watch. A good mod will know it needs to stay where it is.

PS Hitler was a celebrity.

i agree with Slim, since basically it can relate back to some of today's extreme far right groups

greeks golden dawn party are nazi's, they are out of parliament there but that isn't stopping them in their desire to expand globally, so they should still be watched carefully and be stopped from growing bigger, they are murderers, proof = anyone who is against them will be murdered by them, one greek rapper against the far right got shot dead by some of golden dawn's members

they want to expand globally, well these thugs you don't want in your country

so yeah i call their story also ''rise of the nazi's''

It is interesting to see how much more right wing this country has become within a space of a few years.

I'm not saying that all right wing people are Nazi's obviously, but it does appear like a lot of people in Parliament and in society in general are trying to push the bounds of how extremely right wing they can go before hitting the Nazi category.

I honestly don't think all hope is lost yet though, I'm hoping that the right wing of this country (our leaders at the moment) will see sense and learn to become more moderate again, rather than trying to be like Trump, Putin, or worse... Hitler.

Lol.

So what's the debate here? The programme or the rise of nazism in the 20's and 30s?

I agree with pretty much all of that apart from the hope that the rw leaders will see sense. Unfortunately, the conservatives have put themselves in an extreme position, and their support (not all, but an increasing chunk) is actually dependent on that section, emboldening the far right even further.

There is a westminster rally on Sat by a far right football supporters group and they were advertising it on twitter earlier as showing their support for Boris and the queen.

Well if that's the case, then we have to hope that the general public will swing towards Labour and get the Conservatives out of office if they can't afford to do their jobs properly.

I know that Corbyn will be a problem for a lot of people though.

How does supporting the Prime Minister and the Queen mean someone is "far right"? Boris isn't, and she's apolitical.

You might want to expand on this story.

I think that now when most people who remembered the consequences of far right getting into power are dead theres a serious danger of repeating the whole thing.
The far right of today has the potential. And we see that some individuals are happy spouting nazi-like themes and narratives

It doesn't, but the rally is organised by a far right football supporters group. You misunderstood what I meant; my opinion is that far right and right are becoming so inextricably linked that it's difficult to see daylight between them. When have you ever seen the far right promoting and supporting generic conservatives in the past? Now they are campaigning to support them.

I think the group must have a far right history, more than the Tweet itself being far right.

Although I would call Boris a dictator after his move against Parliament. Going onto a separate issue of course.

He wasnt considered evil to start with though was he.
British prime minister Neville Chamberlain cut a deal with him didn't he. He sold Czechoslovakia to him for a promise of peace. Not the finest moment was it.

same ''promise of peace'' the sovjets thought if they had poland in half with the nazi's, but Hitler wanted it all and that is hitler's biggest mistake because that was the turning point of sovjets joining the allied forces more or less against nazi's

if he left sovjets alone, we would've had a different story, perhaps outcome of WW2, so we're Lucky that Hitler became cocky, was too power hungry and stupid
