Default Fish and Chip shop to open Christmas Day to feed homeless for free...

...just a little bit of a heart warming story in the true spirit of Christmas.....

A fish and chip shop has decided to stay open on Christmas Day to serve free food to people who are homeless or vulnerable.

Victoria Fish Bar, in Cardiff, said on Facebook that they wanted to help those sleeping rough in the city.

A dedicated 'A Team' of staff are prepared to give up their day to help out, offering to try and emulate the Christmas experience for those who are alone on the day.

The restaurant wrote:"Homelessness has been on a rise in Cardiff and we think we need to make a difference as influential members of this community. Hence on Christmas day 12-3pm, we shall be open for all homeless, elderly and vulnerable people, providing free meals to all those who come.

"We realise that not everybody has the luxury to have a nice warm meal at a loved one’s house with family and friends, so we will try very hard on the day to emulate such an experience.

Victoria Fish Bar’s post garnered a positive reaction on Facebook, accumulating 14,000 reactions and 13,000 shares.

One user wrote: "Love this. How kind and thoughtful you all are.... there are many out there that should take a leaf out of your book."

Another said: "Really well done guys I just wish more establishments would think to do the same. I hate seeing people with nowhere to go, it’s so sad."
"So to those who are homeless, elderly or vulnerable, come and join us and we can experience this great time together."

Donate to a homeless charity, or go and volunteer for a few hours or invite an elderly person who is on their own in for dinner, it’s not always for ‘others’ to do, do something yourself

I agree with you Cherie.

Well done to the Chip Shop though as they'll be losing profit by doing this in what's already a tough type of industry to be competitive in anyway.

You do see on occasion worth while charities, but it pisses me off that you can’t make a donation there and then, instead they say no we can’t take it, instead want you you to sign up to monthly direct debit.

I agree with this. Its infuriating when I can't commit to direct debits for every chugger that stops me in the town centre when I would be happy to just give them a small one off donation and they refuse it.

I prefer stuff like when they have collection buckets at tills in supermarkets and you put what you want in.

How do you know they don't, it's only 2 comments.

And they have a point, food establishments throw away a ridiculous amount of food that a lot of them could give to the needy. Putting them in a unique position.

What a lovely thing to do

I think it’s criminal that big ships get away with throwing away good food at the end of the day rather than giving it away, they wouldn’t lose any extra money by donating it, I’m sure I read somewhere than it’s mandatory for god shops to donate their leftover food items to charities instead of throwing it away, we should have something like that out into place here imo

I wonder are shops afraid of being sued if people got sick and blamed the food for example, they would have strict guidelines around food, how it's transported/stored etc. It wouldn't surprise me in this compensation and uber health and safety culture we're in right now, you know maybe they're thinking they're putting themselves at risk for no monetary gain

I used to work in asda and they donated all fresh waste to an animal sanctuary (I have no idea if they also donated grocery items) but they man who used to pick the food up but he ruined it for himself by being difficult by refusing to pick the food up every two days.

At christmas they would ring the local homeless shelter on Christmas eve and give them all the items that would be out of date when they reopened too.

Ring up Crises and tell them that you want to donate, but you don’t want money wasted sending you stuff through the post so you do not wish to leave any personal details, they just take your bank details job done

That's great, a few places will be feeding people for free here on Christmas too. It's a shame that families are still going hungry in 2019

It will be open anyway...look at them...they look like okzan whom opens his shop every xmas down my way. ..

I had to stop eating takeaway cause he said I could have a free meal at xmas a few years ago..so I did...that"ll teach him.

To say it's opening especially for that is ridiculous.
