Now they will too to those over 75. They are not much better than back street loan sharks. With their attitude. I have found dealing with them for others, as extremely intolerant and a shocking attitude. Then when they send anyone out to an address, really near impossible to deal with. This whole set up needs looking at, even moreso now they are charging those over 75. It's all very well saying those on pension credit will still qualify. There are many, (as pension credit is one of the least claimed benefits by those entitled to it), who will now slip through that net. As they haven't claimed it and don't even know they can. It's all very well saying it's only around less than £4 weekly. To someone on a basic pension, that's a weeks money almost taken from them just to watch TV in their own homes. It's like a dinosaur tax and should be consigned to history. Last edited by joeysteele; 04-09-2020 at 11:50 AM. |

But it's true... all of it we shouldn't lie to kids! Horrible histories is the only thing worth paying the licence fee for imo.

It's not a 'fee' ...it's a tax, that's why we all have to pay it. It's a 'idiot box tax'
Sit and watch 'can't pay we'll take it away' This week Albert from Bolton (83) is thrown in the slammer for non payment of his TV licence. ( This episode is dedicated to Albert of Bolton who died during the making of this programme)

I think with the rocketing popularity of streaming services since lockdown 1.0, the writing really is on the wall for the BBC license fee. They need to transition to a subscription-based service, probably work out a deal with Sky/Virgin to be built into available subscription packages. And they need to start the ball rolling NOW, before they miss the boat entirely.

That's a good point you know - how would they prove you have a TV these days?
"Can I come in, I suspect you have a TV and are not paying licence fee." "No **** off it's Covid times get away from my door." |

That said - they don't come and check anyway. We genuinely didn't use live TV for over 18 months a few years back (just Netflix, Amazon, YouTube etc.) and after about 4 months of letters and threats of "coming to check", they just stopped sending them. No one ever turned up at the door and I highly doubt they ever would.

the neverending pathetic hate towards BBC continues
i'd say just put a few ad breaks in, i don't mind ads (i mean in my country the national tv channels NPO1,2,3 also got a ''ad break'' called Ster, after each program, but not between programmes) so maybe BBC could look into doing something like that license fee remains the biggest problem here i think the news content i find good the game shows i quite like the drama series, movies content is also improving (becoming more topical, current into modern times regarding BLM or LGBTQ+) reality shows such as The Repair Shop, Money for Nothing, DIY SOS also remains fun to watch shame though they axed Crimewatch as i also did watch that all the time

It’s a public vote, the result is nothing to do with the BBC

I don’t have the licence, I can’t justify spending that money to watch The Apprentice and literally nothing else.
