i think after the theatrics are over tomorrow, Trump will either have staged a coup, will actively go for a violent coup or do a runner to another country. He will almost certainly be locked up now for the telephone call at the weekend so he doesn't have any other options.

It's a more complicated process when it's the sitting president; the law literally doesn't apply in the same way.

Well the Law should especially for something like that, it's like him trying to enter Dictator territory and actually a **** you to democracy, the thing that put him there in the first place. It's actually outrageous and the American people should be furious about it imo

The whole thing has shone a huge spotlight on some of the glaring holes in US politics to be honest. It is essentially an "honour system" that relies on politicians sticking to etiquette rules, rather than outright laws and regulations. As soon as you get someone like Trump who cares not for etiquette or dignity... it falls apart a bit.

He and his family complicit in the administration's corruption should be jailed, but sadly, I don't think they will. The Right Wing won't turn on their own, especially in America. I can't recall if it was a senate or congress race but one state had a close race between a democrat and a proven-beyond-doubt republican peadophile. A lot of people were willing to vote a peadophile in just because he was republican.

As long as Trump claims to be a republican, he will be protected.
