I reckon our government (Ireland Zizu ) will start to relax the lockdown rules on May 5th, depending on how our cases/death figures are looking by then I suppose but from stuff Leo has said it seems that's the way they want to go

TAOISEACH Leo Varadkar has suggested restrictions designed to stop the spread of Covid-19 will begin to ease on May 5.

“That’s what I’m, hoping,” he said tonight, adding that a plan would be shared with the public before that date.

Mr Varadkar urged businesses and schools to begin to consider how they will operate with social distancing measures in place when they are allowed to reopen.

Speaking on RTE’s Prime Time, he said there were three criteria to be met to so as to begin to relax the lockdown.

UK cases/deaths are showing no signs of slowing so I don’t see their lockdown being lifted anytime soon

Guernsey’s restrictions aren’t starting to be lifted this Saturday though

Are there many cases there Smithy? You would think if you can get a handle on it, it would be easier to keep it out on a small Island

It's not the deaths you need to be looking at and we hit our peak weeks ago and it should with in the next week or 2 start to drop.

Also not all the deaths are from 24 hours some hospitals take days to relay back deaths especially at weekends so it gets added to the midweek totals

241 so far, but we went into lockdown after like 20 odd cases because the first person to person transmission (in Guernsey) was recorded. So it’s been about 4 weeks(?) or so of lockdown so far, the restrictions they’re lifting are only gonna be things like Gardner’s going back to work stuff like that.

I think they’ve done a good job so far, but it only really takes one person for the whole thing to get out of hand again

Hospital admissions in London have been on a downward trend for at least a week now, the rest of the UK is still in a plateau

Yeah this the thing isn't it and when you look at that on a worldwide scale, it's hard to see how we're ever going to get back to "normal" until they can get a vaccine for it (if they can, I don't even want to think about what will happen if they can't) If lot's of different countries are all doing different things and then we all start travelling between countries again. To be absolutely safe, they would really have to ban travel between countries until a vaccine is in place

seems to be no easy answer apart from over 70s and those at risk with underlying conditions stay at home until a vaccine is found which could be never I think we will just have to start living with it....no gatherings will help and people continuing to work from home where possible

untrue, London hospital admissions peaked a week about and have been on a downward trajectory, at any rate it isn't a pissing contest of course a small Island will handle it better though, for a population of 63,000 241 seems a lot given Wales with a population of 3 million has had about 600 deaths, is there a high number of elderly residents?

Well, the lockdown was only ever to give hospitals and our health systems a chance to prepare itself so I hope they've done that adequately for the time when they begin relaxing the rules. And yeah I agree with you. Schools will be one of the biggest challenges though, I just can't imagine how they could implement safe social distances in places like schools and universities though and it's those places are likely to set the whole thing off again

In the Spanish lockdown children haven't been allowed to leave their homes for any reason.

Although they are changing that on 26th April.

They've started letting people travel and saying you can go out more than once a day for exercise, a big mistake given we're still at the peak

I haven seen any change in the guidance and at the briefings they resist talking about an exit strategy but the journos keep pushing which is pretty annoying as it gives people ideas

I think one of the predictions by the government behaviour insights unit (might have been someone else) was that people would eventually tire of the lockdown and start to resume their normal activities, so lockdowns would only be effective for a certain amount of time.

Info on their Covid-19 work here - https://www.bi.team/our-work/covid-19/

They have to relax it to avoid us crippling as a nation, 6 weeks is gonna destroy us enough any more would be terrible and they have to get certain business open again to avoid them going out of business
