Oh yeah, let's not allow the police to taser someone who was driving drunk in case a kid sees. I could understand the outrage if they'd shot him...

It's more about the lack of duty of care and health and safety by the officer

We don’t really have all the evidence available to be honest ...hopefully one or both of the cops had video running

He shot a taser while his colleague was so close to him and a young child a couple of steps away in a gas station that's really bad duty of care

Police must deal with 20,000 drunk people with kids every time united play at home, and about 10 people in total when city play; I'm pretty sure their first approach isn't to taser the **** out of someone.

As you know the response has to be proportionate to the threat.

If really does need to be taken into context though .. it was a big aggressive, drunken guy who was acting very threateningly .. maybe he felt the guy had a knife or something, maybe the guy threatened them with a knife , maybe he made threats towards the cop’s family .. we just don’t know ..

That’s why I said it’s no use jumping to conclusions when we just don’t know enough about the situation

True .. but as I’ve said repeatedly... we just don’t know what the threat amounts to .. he could have looked as though he was reaching for a knife or he may have said he was going to use a knife.. we just don’t know enough.
The policeman’s reaction suggests that there’s something we just aren’t aware of ..whilst many in here are behaving like our gutter press and trying to ‘make’ a headline

All the more reason to remove the child and use the Taser from a safe distance. Away from the petrol pumps obv.
You of course have no reason to suggest there was a knife, the police don't usually put themselves at risk by grabbing people with knives.

We DON’T know why the cop act unwisely !!

That’s my point .. there COULD have been a knife involved in a verbal threat

As I said that would have been more likely to cause the officers to retreat rapidly and call for back up. Not sure why we are delving into fantasy here though.

What matters here is the police's conduct.

Tasers and weapons in general aren't to be employed to de-escalate situations. They're for defense and the defense of others. The officers couldn't be bothered to diffuse the situation and they made the moronic choice to discharge a taser in a petrol station. There was no concern for their surroundings or the safety of people around them and certainly no care given to soothe the child.

Speculation on why a cop reacted so unwisely is hardly fantasy ... it is a forum after all ..

As I keep saying - we should wait until we have all the facts - also other cop seemed to be trying to pacify the child in that 8 second clip we saw ..

Yes I appreciate that but I’m wondering/ presuming that there’s a factor or two that we don’t know about ..

We have all seen clips in which police are faced with someone who has weapons and police do not deploy the taser.

I think In this case it was poor judgment and the fall from being tasered onto concrete could of been fatal.

I got stopped today for no insurance the police officer was actually nice.
