I don't think the students are to blame for the massive hike though, its been going up rapidly even whilst in this local lockdown.

I have friends who work at salford royal and they have said that admissions are still low at the moment but are starting to creep up.

There is a vocal group on a local Salford FB group who are encouraging people to go against mask wearing and lockdown to suggest its all a conspiracy etc
dont admissions always go up in October?

So the upshot is that when the number of infected looked to be levelling out as people were complying with restrictions, the reality is that we reached the maximum value of the spreadsheet, cases were still rising and the numbers being reported now are the true measure ... so the infected number has continued to climb even with the restrictions

you are being intentionally misleading. The admissions quoted are covid admissions, and this is the first october we have had with it as you well know

I didn't bother responding considering it was quite clear what I was referring to.

Manchester's numbers have never stopped rising, so its proven the restrictions are more or less useless

There was a segment on the news last night showing where cases are exploding.....Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Nottingham in the North.....all big University towns where lots of new students have started mixing. I don't think its a coincidence. Not blaming the students at all but with the decision to let Unis start the Gov have allowed mixing from all over the country

Well in and around the Manchester area ... the only people that I know or can see abiding by the regulations are those over 45 - from what I can assess anyway .

London has loads of Unis and there are Unis in practically every big City so it makes no sense it would be happening in just though areas

I think that's unfair. I have seen lots of non mask wearers and have seen neighbours having people in their houses and they have been a variety of ages. Not just youngsters, plenty of older people

Our cases were high any way, I expect other areas to follow suit. I actually don't think its a bad thing to have it run through the student population as they will hopefully not get too ill and will then develop some immunity (hopefully) and be able to live their lives and experience uni a bit more normally. Its that age I feel the most sorry for with all this.

same tbh, that's why I think being locked down together in halls for two weeks initially wasn't that bad an idea

The talk about levelling off came from an ONS survey testing people at random across the country and from another survey, these were both unaffected by this error in the daily count

There have been postive covid cases reported at the school I worked at but left recently. I would say good job i have left but I left to do more hours at my university job. Which also now has positive cases
They have testing centers on site here all week so it will be interesting to see how many cases we end up with apparently its 2 at the moment which is very low compared to other universities. But I will wait and see. I will be wearing all my PPE to clean after them all anyway!
