Has anyone ever been on a cruise? I’m hoping to go on one next year either carnival cruise or royal Caribbean. I wanna know what are the activities, food like what sort of things did you do on the cruise and what places did you go and is a cruise worth it?

I’ve been back in 2007/8 ish.
Went around the Med, started in Palma, Majorca then after a day at sea went to three places in Italy (Genoa, a pretty little city called La Spezia and then Civitaveccia which is a port for Rome), Barcelona, Marseilles and then back to Palma. It’s great fun and excellent value if you go all inclusive. Book the excursions too! A lot of the time the tourist attractions and city centres are quite far away from the ports so it’s just much easier to book the tours from the ship rather than make your own way (safer too in some cases). I’d love to go again! It’s great waking up every morning somewhere brand new and going exploring. My favourite thing was to sit at night on the top deck and watch the lights from the coast going by. Bliss! Last edited by LaLaLand; 24-11-2020 at 11:41 PM. |

Be mindful of seasickness though - the initial day at sea we had knocked me for six and although it was calm and you barely feel like you’re moving, I still felt so, so nauseous. Thankfully a pill from the ship’s doctor/hospital wing thing sorted me out completely and by the fourth day when we were sailing through a rough storm I was eating dinner no problem on the top deck holding onto my plate for dear life!
My sister and Dad were totally fine but my Mum on the other hand just couldn’t get her sea legs and was still spewing on the last day, Exorcist-level on the first couple of days! Everyone is different. Last edited by LaLaLand; 24-11-2020 at 11:43 PM. |

From what I understand, if one person falls ill, the whole ship will :x

My folks used to go on cruises every year and loved them. The last one they went on was to the Fjords in Norway and saw the Northern lights. They have done the Caribbean and all round Europe. They met loads of friends on them too who my Dad keeps in touch with.

on German cruiseliners there is now more thorough cleaning, and i mean real disinfecting anything, door handles, seats at the theatre
this year summer they had also strict guidelines for their passengers when they arrive at the destination, not to come in contact with anyone, just do some sightseeing, and return back to the cruise for a test (depending on test is positive or negative, either positive meaning isolating in your room on board, negative meaning you can do whatever you want still for safety with social distancing)

...I guess that it’s a return of confidence thing as well, which will come more and more in time...the association to ‘stranded on cruise ships’ that were reported at the beginning of COVID times and how vulnerable etc, it was for people...

...... Cruising Matilda, Cruising Matilda...you’ll come a cruising Matilda with me...
...I know that it did have that vibe of being a more older person thing...but I didn’t think it is anymore...one of my friends and his partner...(...in their 30s..)...both love it, it just suits them completely because they get to see so many different places ...when I’ve talked to them about their times, they say there are lots of people of similar ages there... |

...and if you say that 30’s is a less able bodied age, I’m going to hit you.....
...I just don’t have sea legs, personally...I went on a short cruise to Denmark once and felt ill for the whole of the travelling bit.. |

I'm not sure if they're my thing, I prefer cold weather holidays.
That said, I think my gran once mentioned she wanted to do a cruise up in Norway, to see the polar bears and the lights. That'd be awesome. |

Crusing isn't specifically a hot weather thing, you can cruise in Alsaka for instance

Id do it for scandanavia or iceland greenland. Take pictures. I would not go for the food or to be social but i know that is a draw for many.
and i dont get seasick so that is fine. Last edited by LeatherTrumpet; 25-11-2020 at 08:58 AM. |

i got sea sick on my first voyage in a perfect calm
It doesn't take long for most folk to get their sea legs and then it's perfectly fine |

I went on a 3 day Med cruise two years ago with a few friends, I have to say i wasn't a big fan of it, the last day was really rough and all I wanted to do was lie down, we had a day/night either side of the cruise in Barcelona and those two days were my favourite of the trip.....make of that what you will
