I don't see it as a problem. Vaccines can be modified to fight off the new variants.

Just been to my local supermarket, walked in without a mask, nobody said anything. Probably over 90% of shoppers in there were also maskless. I got to the till and the lady serving was also maskless.

Oh no! The World is going to end. Quick, panic!

It's not mandatory until Tuesday. I am sure you will see a difference then as the majority will want to keep themselves and others safer

Just watching the darts. A packed crowd there, many times more people there than you'd get in a supermarket or on a bus and all closer together, not a mask in sight.

What's so special about shops and transport that is different to clubs, sporting venues, work places ect?

You want to wear a mask? then nobody is stopping you, but please leave the rest of us alone to do what we want to do. Your demands of us are bullying and authoritarian.

Default An evidence review of face masks against COVID-19

Conclusion
Our review of the literature offers evidence in favor of widespread mask use as
source control to reduce community transmission: Nonmedical masks use
materials that obstruct particles of the necessary size; people are most
infectious in the initial period postinfection, where it is common to have few or
no symptoms (45, 46, 141); nonmedical masks have been effective in reducing
transmission of respiratory viruses; and places and time periods where mask
usage is required or widespread have shown substantially lower community
transmission.

When used in conjunction with widespread testing, contact tracing,
quarantining of anyone that may be infected, hand washing, and physical
distancing, face masks are a valuable tool to reduce community
transmission.

Safer from what? The big scarey invisible monster that we've lived with for almost 2 years now?

You told us the vaccines would keep you safer. That now turns out that you were lying about that. You've moved the goalposts so far they've gone from Old Trafford to South Africa.

I didn't tell you anything.

I've made informed choices for myself based on scientific data. You can shout, stamp your feet and pontificate all you want. Personally, I don't give a **** who is wearing a mask or who is vaccinated, I try to avoid people anyway so as long as I have done all I can to protect me and my loved ones, by wearing a mask that is proven to reduce the risk of transmission and by being vaccinated that has been proven to reduce the risk of serious illness and death....everyone else can knock themselves out with whatever they want to do.

The scientific data brought to you by Matt Hancock, who got caught snogging another woman during the height of the pandemic. He really believed in the data.

Nope. He read out the data....actual scientists who have studied epidemiology for years have produced the data....I would rather believe them than Twitter MDs

I'm sure masks can help reduce transmission but I think the effect is tiny and makes little difference in the grand scheme of things given that everything else is basically back to normal. The argument for wearing them mainly seems to be that it's a measure you can take pretty easily without being a big imposition on people's lives. But for me it's about are we committed to returning to normality or not. Everyone wandering around with masks on is a depressing sight, they're a nuisance to wear and they hinder human interaction. If you work in a role that requires you to wear one all day its even more of a pain

That’s promising although the SA variant hasn’t got a foothold yet ...

if omicron is more infectious than delta but less lethal, then its a good thing. Early indications are that its less lethal

I'm running a sweepstake on what the next variant will be called.

At the moment you're probably all thinking that there won't be another one, but I'm sure you'll accept it when it arrives.
