It’s a funny one .. the pros say that after you’ve trained all week and then your team scores a goal it’s virtually impossible not to celebrate... they just need to tone things down somewhat.

I know that many don’t agree with football even being played but the other side of the coin is that millions of footie fans up and down the country ( all ages ) were badly effected when they suspended football last year ...

Also aren’t pro footballers especially Premier League ones contained in some kind of bubble ???

I do know they are being Covid tested very frequently

Interesting account to follow, there seemed so little to be concerned about a year ago today. Go to Wuhan, just don't touch dead birds

There was a huge panic about SARS in the early 2000's and it came to nothing, same with MERS outbreaks in the 2010's. There are also frequent outbreaks of (individually) far worse illnesses than Covid (ebola et al) in certain regions... So they probably just thought it was more of the same. In reality of course Covid is far less severe than all of those - but MASSIVELY more infectious... So was almost comically underestimated.

because its a more infectious variant, that infects people quicker, when you split people up, it drops much quicker too, or at least, thats the theory

I think I'd be more worried about falling onto the ground where players have just spat on.
Or cleared their nose on.

Than perhaps a hug.
After matches they head straight to showers usually.

Look how close they get just playing the game.
They can't social distance and play football.
So a cough or sneeze could throw the virus to them, never mind hugs.

In the pressure of playing matches where points are vital.
Games where goals maybe are few and one can win a match.
Then adrenaline takes over and celebrating is almost unavoidable.

Perhaps, unfortunately at present, because you can't wear masks and play and cannot social distance, then maybe football ought not to be played at the moment at all.

It will take some time.

there is no hugging at our eredivisie, here the 'football bubbles' do kinda work well, and if there is a positive test, they immediately do self-isolate

and if too many cases the match will just be delayed to another day, but most teams want to keep playing, even if they need to select several youth players instead

It would upset me too arista.

However, no masks no social distancing for over 2 hours.
I can't see how hugs in that scenario are going to worsen things.

If hugging is considered dangerous.
Then so should be the walls made for free kicks, all tackles, running close marking players.

Not a facecovering in sight either.

Referee charging up, in and out too.

Makes no sense to me, sorry.

This makes sense:
As they pay for 2 Tests a week
they can carry on.

All they need to learn is no hugging.

All they need to learn is no hugging.
Well if they're tested twice a week, all always negative.
There's no issue, or shouldn't be, across the board then.

All teams are paying extra to have Covid Tests
twice a week.
That's how they catch a team player that has picked it up.
