[Twelve people have died and two children are in
hospital with serious injuries after a cable car
plunged to the ground near Lake Maggiore in northern Italy.
The capsule fell from its cable close to the second last pillar
near the summit of the Mottarone mountain with 15 people on board
at about midday (11am BST) on Sunday,
Italy's mountain rescue service said.]

…so incredibly tragic, I can’t imagine what everyone there is going through right now…at least one of the children is conscious with their injuries…?…it’s amazing that anyone survived…

Any time i have travelled on a cable car i've thought it looked very dodgy, i just don't think they are fundamentally very safe

Horrible way to go

Could be the Tension of the cable
as it was left idle
for many months


Any Normal Checking not going on.

again in 2016, and had only reopened
on 24 April after COVID lockdowns forced
the closure of ski lifts across Italy last year.]

I've been in a cable car ages ago when I visited Algeria.
It was bloody terrifying

One was just five he was probably being held and that shielded him, both his parents are probably dead, just awful

Thats how much spent on it
2016 it was open again.

So Maybe because of the Covid Gap
something went wrong.

…some details about some of the victims… Roberta Pistolato was a doctor working on the frontline of Italy's battle against Covid…she was celebrating her 40th birthday with her boyfriend Angelo Gasparro, 45…





…an engaged couple Silvia Malnati 27, and Alessandro Merlo, 29, were also killed….

…One family, originally from Israel and living in Italy, lost five members including a two-year-old boy and an 81-year-old grandmother when the car fell…
