Exclamation

Zhengzhou saw 624mm of rainfall Sat to Tuesday, with a third of that amount falling between 16:00 and 17:00 alone, which "smashed historical records".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-57861067

annual rainfall is 640mm

Yeah, I used to think "My street is at decent elevation in this village" until I saw all the bloody landslips... now I expect to just wake up one morning sliding off down the hill.

But more seriously - there's a lot of "new housing" in the village that was - absolutely stupidly - build on farmland that was already prone to flooding and when they were building "older" locals tried to stop it, saying that in the past those fields used to basically turn into a lake every 5 years or so.

Lo and behold - 20 years down the line - they have huge drainage issues on those streets, and if we get any significant flooding here they're ****ed.

yup

would be quite boring if we only had such predictable weather

tbh there should be more investments made into preventing these floods from happening again

maybe we should somehow go for a flood research team, same how we have one of those teams for tornado's etc
